I'm thinking about getting my wife a new Kindle for her B-day. Question I have is it worth it to get the Wireless 3G one or just get the regular Wireless one. Looks like Amazon has the regular wireless one currently for $139 and the wireless 3G one for $189. I'm new to this so anything else I should be aware of please let me know. Thanks.
I got one for my wife for v-tines day. She loves it. I got the 3G model, simply because it was only another $50 or so, and a lot of the time we are on the road, etc......and don't have access to wifi. Hope this helps, I'm sure she will like it.
Ummm...... I've never heard of a Nook. I didn't think there was anything else like a Kindle. My ears are open. Why should I get a Nook instead of a Kindle? Pro's/Cons? Remember, I know NOTHING. :D
Funny I don't really know either. It's why I was asking. My wife is wanting an e-reader, and we were leaning towards a Nook Mainly because we can get one in color and get kids books that has the pictures. Honestly that's the only reason so far. I have been told that getting a Nook repaired is easier than getting a Kindle repaired, but that's only word of mouth. Here's you a link for the Nook http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/index.asp Personally I want an iPad.
Do you have a smartphone (Android or iPhone), laptop, netbook, iPad, etc.? If so, you can most likely get kindle for them as well and it would have more functionality. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.ht..._t=1401&pf_rd_p=1279039382&pf_rd_i=1000426311
My wife does not have a smart phone. And knowing her she wants small, and simple. I think what she will really like is that the Kindle looks exactly like a book. I was eavesdropping on someone next to me in the airport the other day. I could not believe it. The screen on a kindle is amazing. Absolutely no glare and honestly looks like you are reading a book. With the amount she reads that kindle will probably pay for itself with how much cheaper books are when you get them electronically.
Well there is a non-color version of the Nook that looks and feels just like the Kindle. I messed around with both of them at Best Buy the other day and both seem pretty good.
Bought one for me wife on Valentines day, and she loves it (I've read one book on it as well). Like Matt, I got the 3G, because, well, it was only another $50, and because like Matt, we can purchase and download books on the road. The 3G service is included in the one time price, you don't have a monthly fee. The major advantage of the Kindle over many other e-readers is the e-ink. There is no glare, because it's not an LCD screen. It can be read easily under bright sunlight, or incandescent lighting.
Question for those of you with e-readers: Can you save the book file you download? Meaning, if you purchase the ebook, you can save it off and read it again later? Someone was asking me this and I've never used one. I've only used the free version of Kindle on my computer or smart phone to read free books.
Thanks. Can you transfer the files to another computer? That's more what I was looking for. I'm sure there's a hack to do it. I'm referring to the average user.
Yep, you can connect and transfer Kindle files to your computer (recommended as a backup). If you have Kindle E-reader software installed, you can also read them on your comp.
Thanks, I'm aware of the Kindle software for computers, phones, etc. as I linked it previously. Just didn't know if one could transfer or backup the files to another device so as to keep from having to pay/download them multiple times if you want to read them again.
Bringing this old topic back up... Looking into one for my wife for mother's day. I've heard different things lately that the one to get is the Nook as you have more options such as ebook sharing and not a proprietary format like the Kindle. Was told to stay away from the Sony ereader. Opinions?
I bought my wife a Nook for her birthday and she loves it. I've messed with it a little and it's pretty neat. I've got no experience with a Kindle though, but was told everything you were about a Nook being a better option along with a Nook is easier to get repaired. That's about all the help I can be with them. Good luck!
I got my wife the Kindle for her B-day two weeks ago. My understanding is that the Kindle has a the best selection of books. Like they have everything. Also, the new generation screen on the Kindle is supposed to be superior. Can't confirm though. My guess is the Nook has it's advantages as well. Being pretty ignorant to these E-readers other than Internet research and talking to a few people I wanted to get the benchmark. She loves it.
