I just spent the better part of the last two days in the hospital.

I've been staying at my place up north for the past several weeks. The hunting was just starting to pick up. I got up Thursday morning early like I normally do and was having coffee while scanning the forums of BH.com. To make a long story short, it wasn't too long before I started feeling a bit off. Instead of getting dressed to go outside I decided to lay back down for a bit to see if my feeling would pass. I got up an hour later and noticed I was extremely thirsty. I got a glass of water and drank it quite fast but suddenly felt nauseous and light headed. This is kind of graphic, but this is what happened next. I sat on the can with the urge to go (urgently) and suddenly had a hot flash. I tore off my shirts and found I was dripping with sweat and had just passed a very large amount of blood. I knew I was in trouble and that I had to quickly find my phone and get some help. I was alone as my wife was at home at her job. Feeling like I was about to pass out I quickly dialed a buddy of mine who was at work just a couple miles from my place (owns his own business). He drove me to the hospital in Sparta.

They tried to stabilize me with blood and fluids then transported me to La Crosse by ambulance. After four packs of blood and many bags of saline, I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. They found nothing. The doctors said that I had diverticulosus. GI bleeding. With the bleeding stopped, they sent me home.

My wife drove me to our place last evening where I just hung out and relaxed. This morning I feel like nothing ever happened.

My place is way out in the sticks. I was a little nervous about passing out here with no one to find me for a few days. I'm also a bit nervous about having this happen again. Not quite the way I thought my hunting vacation would go.

Wow,that is scary. I hope the docs were right and all is good now. I'd be careful for a while and be staying alone for a time. At least till you are confident you are AOK.

Close call you had! My grandmother and uncle had that condition. Not supposed to have anything with seeds or it will irritate it, right?

I have also had this before. You should go see a specialist. The old theories of eating seeds and nuts and thing like that are not correct. The specialist should fill you in and also be able to tell the cause a little better. Usually it's either your diet or a problem in a part of your colon that may need to be removed. In half the cases this is a reacuring problem and each time it occurs it gets worse and could lead to a more serious surgery and longer recovery.
