As you guys may or may not I leave for MCRD Parris Island on Sunday so my season is extremely short. Normally I would have wanted for a bigger buck, but this season one had to hit the ground before I shipped or else it would be in the back of my mind. I woke up extra early yesterday and was set up in the Lonewolf about 1.5 hours before first light. I had deer under me pretty much the whole time it was dark, but could see in my binos that it was just does. Fast forward to daylight the first deer to show were small junk bucks spikes, 3 points, 4 points, etc...So after I watched and video them for a awhile I decided to take a seat and just realize. Then about 0730 I had a bigger 4 point come out of no were from my left, but knew from trail cam pics that this dude ran with the bigger bucks based on trail cam pics. I then slowly stood up as if there was a deer behind me and grabbed my bow sure enough right after that here comes the buck! Once I saw him and got the camera on him I decided I was gonna give him the shaft. He walked in and started browsing staying behind tree branches with no shot for a good 5 mins all awhile I'm filming just as he steps out and I'm about to draw I took one last look at my camera to make sure it was in frame and SD CARD FULL flashing on the screen. I quickly deleted random videos to make space, drew, settled the pin, and boom he was off. He ran 50 yards stop and looked back at me and I could see blood pouring down his sides and he was off again. I waited 10 mins and packed all my stuff climbed down put everything in the truck and began to track. Blood was great the first 60 yards it was EVERYWHERE the ground five foot up on trees etc. After that it started to be pins and needles so I slowed my pace to a step and scan I eventually lost blood, but based on the direction of the trail I knew were he had went so I slowly proceeded into the thick. Not 10 yards into the tall grass I saw my buck standing there alive! So I hit the deck and sat there helpless watching him. After 30-45 mins of this he decided it was time to take a walk and as soon as I couldn't see his rack any longer I slowly crawled out of there to get lunch and let him die. I came back 3 hours later to find him less then 10 yards to were I had last seen him. It was an awesome hunt
Congrats again and thank you in advance for your service to our country. I did not know you were heading into the service until I saw Tom Lester's post on FB last evening. Definitely a short season for you! Mike
