Even though it is coming from Fox, I would have to agree.

    Well said.

While there are some valid points here, the kids really are not alright. Our education system is completely dumbed down so that the slowest kid can pass. Leaving the gifted kids unchallenged and bored.
A very large portion of our youth are obese and sedentary. They do not run and they do not play outside. Fat and out of shape, childhood obesity rates and childhood diabetes rates are at all time highs.
While childhood violence may be down, the type of violence has changed. Changed from fist fights to much more serious acts of violence.
I don't blame the kids, society is not alright either.

I would tend to agree with the writer.

You do realize that article is saying the obesity rate only dropped in children ages 2-6 and that it was unchanged in older kids? Then this quote....

Ha, did you even read the article? You made my point by posting it. The only segment that dropped was young children from the ages of 2-6 years old, the rest remained at all time highs. Here's the quote right out of the article you linked.

"According to the CDC report, older children made no progress, with nearly 18% of kids ages 6 to 11 remaining obese, as well as 20.5% of kids ages 12 to 19. In women over age 60, obesity rates climbed from 31% to 35.4% in the same period, the study shows.

Obesity "remains at historic highs," says David Ludwig of Boston Children's Hospital, who has warned that today's kids could be the first generation in history to live shorter, less healthy lives than their parents. He described the declining obesity rates among youngsters only as an "encouraging preliminary finding."

Next time you link an article, you might want to read it first to make sure it actually makes your point.

They are certainly better in many ways, but are seriously lacking in others.

Speaking from my own experience with my own kids, they aren't as social as I was when I was a kid. They very seldom talk on the phone or go to a friends house. It's just texting and instagram for hours. Mostly texting things like "wuts up" or "ya". It does bother me that my kids don't have much of a social life, but it does seem to be the norm for kids now.

Who is to blame for all the fat kids?

You guessed it, the true worst generation of all time, those damn Baby Boomers.

I posted the article because of the "Kids" aspect.

Guess I should have clarified on the age groups.

Please? They are constantly connected with one another. Probably almost in constant communication. Through FB, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsUp, etc, their social network is 100x or 1000x times larger than yours as a kid.

Connected to people who they are a friend of a friend of a friend? I've asked my son who he's texting many times and I get a "It's Andrew's girlfriends brother". I asked what his name was. He didn't even know the kids last name. Some social networking there. I've talked to other parents with kids the same age and get the same story. Texting people they barely know, and don't even speak to each other in public because they can barely spot the person in a crowd. That's not social networking, thats boredom.

Your daughter is still an infant. When she's in high school and texting people that you don't know and she barely knows, revisit this thread.
