So my kids are at the "In-laws" for the week while the wife and I both work nearly every day, and they're having a ball with their cousins....

The BIGGEST Blue Gill I've EVER seen.....
My 7yr old caught this yesterday morning before the storms rolled in. She's 4'5" so she's not tiny by any means. My nephew said it was just a hair over 12"!!! Should've kept it to get mounted!!! The state record is 12.75", next year this fish if alive and caught should break that!!!

Nephew's bass, 21" and 5# 2oz. Biggest bass to come out of the pond which is only 7yrs into being stocked!!!

And my 4yr old had to get in on the action, this one wasn't a monster, but it's cute. Kids are up and out of bed and fishing before they eat breakfast or get their hair brushed!!! Gotta love that!!! :wh: :jam:

My nephew Dan got a little BIG GILL action as well, putting this one on the bank...which measured 9.25"....

Lucky KIDS, and I had to be working on getting lawn mowed, dogs bathed, and working nearly every day, etc!!!

And last night my 14yr old nephew landed a 26" Catfish at about 10:30PM. No pics of that ugly thing, but he said it was a blast to fight with and finally pull in.

Doug that looks like a Green Sunfish or a Warmouth. They can get pretty big, and that one is a great example of that. Congrats to your daughter!

Yep, green sunfish. My grand fathers pond is loaded with them. They taste just as good as bluegill and are big fighters.

Now I'm just feeling more frustrated than before....

I wish I'd have talked to them while they still had the fish in hand. I would've told them to KEEP IT, so it could've been mounted. Just re-checked to see what the state record is for a GREEN SUNFISH in OHIO..... 10 5/8" ( http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/Fis...terecordgreensunfish/tabid/17795/Default.aspx
) Seems that a 12 1/4" would have very easily blown that record out of the water, and my 7 yr. old could have had it if I'd have been there to tell them to KEEP IT!!! :throw: Well, I suppose that means it'll just have to be caught again!!! :D :tu:

Is it a private pond? Not sure of Ohio's regulations, but in Michigan a fish from private water cannot be entered. Kind of like a high fence deer.

No, actually many of the records in the state are from private ponds. As for the "High Fence" statement, I have to agree, as these fish are given more than ample opportunity to grow, which is the results we're seeing now.

Yeah, not taking anything away from those kids or your daughters huge sunfish. Just saying how Michigan views private ponds.

I got nothing against private ponds. They are usually a blast to fish! And a great place to take kids.

Ohio ranks records by weight not length, the lengths are just listed...GET THAT BAD BOY WEIGHED!

Agreed about it being a Green Sunfish too.

    AWESOME CATCH!

He said it was 1.5#!!! Which is a good bit over the record of .99#'s....and it looks a LOT bigger than the one pictured on the ODNR website. Not sure of the accuracy of their little digital scale, but the 5# 2oz. 21" bass seems about right, or maybe even a touch light.....

Yep, I'll likely get up there again in a couple weeks for a few days and see if we can hook another. I caught an 10 3/4" Gill/sunfish up there the week before, and it was easily 1 1/4# probably, but I think it was a GILL, not a Sunfish, but obviously I could've been wrong.... :D
