I thoroughly enjoy teaching youngsters to shoot a bow or cast a fly rod. Its even more special teaching my own kids. We took turns shooting in the yard today. I would shoot from 20 yards, my daughter whould shoot from 5 yards, and my son would shoot from about 2 yards with his little suction arrows. I began to notice my daughter has naturally good form. I shot a few pics, and then she wanted to edit them so they looked "cool". Things sure are different from when I was 6 as far as computers go. Anyway, this was the finished product she liked. I'm more so posting the pic because I'm proud of her form. Lets see some pics of youngsters shooting their bows! Its never too young to get them started.
Thats awesome! Its great getting your kids into the sport. I'm doing the same with mine. This was before the bow upgrade... We got him this for his 8th birthday this year... Not sure what happened to the bottom of this picture. Sorry for all the pictures...but I'm proud.:D
We have the same bow as your daughter, but I added a D loop and cut down a release for my son...will have to take some pics this weekend.
First let me say this made my day. Second, I don't want to hijack the thread but I am curious what others think about how old is old enough to shoot the suction cup bows?
That is the Diamond Razor Edge. He is at 30 lbs draw right now. It will last him until he is able to buys his own due to how much adjustment is in it. It goes up to 60 lbs and 29" draw. It has been a great purchase.
Don't be sorry, thats some darn good shootin'! The Razor/Razor Edge is a heck of a youth/women's bow. Much better than what was available when I was a kid. I'm not exactly sure, but my boy is 2. He needs some when shooting it. He loves it though because he doesn't feel left out. He runs and grabs it everytime he sees me getting my bow out.
Awesome Vito, just awesome!!! Love the fingers too, heck with them releases!! You aren't kidding either, that's some great form. Tell your daughter to keep up the good work from me!! I love this kind of stuff!!
Vito - When I say this I'm serious.......you really should try and get your daughter in front of a good coach while she's still young. I say this not because she needs a lot of help, but because she has some of the best "natural" form I've seen from kids her age. Assuming she has the ability to absorb good advice, aim, and develop rhythm......she's at the age where a good coach could really turn her into a nationally competitive shooter.
Hey fellas. Cool Photo's of the youngsters. My wife and I are 12 weeks along our way on our 1st child. I already want to buy them a bow. My wife told me isn't it alittle early to be bow shopping for our child, I'm only at 12 weeks. I said your right. So, how about a Remington 870 Wing Master 20 gauge instead. LOL.
vito you should be very proud shes very beautiful and i cant wait to put a bow in my daughters hands here in a year or so the suction cup ones. i put my 10year old on my old bow his 5th shot was dead center, boy i was proud! he shoots like her w/ the fingers and all he's scared of the release even after all my efforts to get him to use it.anyway tell her we are all proud of her and to shame her ol'man ha-ha
I've worked at the Illinois Fishing Fair the last 2 years in the bowfishing area. It's a blast. Over a thousand kids go through every year. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=4343
Thats awesome Matt ,She has great form One of my oldest son Johnny about 26 years ago. Sherri my daughter. And Zeb You all know as RuttNutt. Now RuttNutt teaching his. Dead Pig !
Great pics guys. It really put a smile on my face. Vito, seriously, your daughter has better form than half the folks I see in the "how's my form?" threads. You should very seriously consider Matt's advice. I don't have any pics of my son shooting yet. I just got him a Diamond Nuclear Ice and he loves it. I'll have to get some pics here soon and post them up.
Love it! Nice pics. Got my two oldest shooting a "kiddie" plastic recurve. They have fun...and it makes me break out my recurve with them...which I enjoy...good times!
Thanks Schultzy, she loves it. I learned to shoot fingers too and didn't shoot a release until I was in my mid 20s. Each year the pull to sell my compound and buy a recurve is getting stronger and stronger. Maybe one day I will pull the trigger...or not pull the trigger, hehe. RJ, thank you for your advice. I put a lot of weight into what you have to say about archery. Great pics, John. Its great to see Zeb repeating the cycle. Thanks to everyone for posting pics and for the kind comments. She really digs this archery stuff!
You a good man Vito! Do they have the National Archery in Schools program or otherwise NASP in your area? It is a great program and they even have a state tournament up in Wisconsin Rapids every March and no kids are turned away. I am involved in this pretty good at our local grade school. Here is the link for more info and get your local school involved. T *Almost 600 kids last year at the tourney* http://archeryintheschools.org/activea.asp Son Dylan at the state tourney Cole and Dylan 5 yrs ago boy where does time go: Local tourney champ and School Champ: Dylan competing at state
I have two younger cousins (more like nephews) myself, that I'm trying to get into archery. They're father (my uncle but more like brother) was a long time bow hunter but put his bow down when his youngest son developed leukemia. I'm trying to get him back into it aswell. He fought through it and is now 100% cancer free. He is one tough little guy. It amazes me how strong kids are, they will put us adults to shame any day of the week. Archery in the schools programs are something I really support. I wish we had one in our area but the school board will not approve it. Thats a shame. There's no better way to get kids on the right path, which is something a lot of kids need now a days. Those are some great pics, they'll be bow hunters before you know it.
