Is there any doubt that there are, or have been, intelligent lifeforms on other planets?

Why would we even question this. All you have to do is go outside look up and realize every little pinhole represents some sort of solar system.

Some historians believe ancient civilizations like the Mayans could not have possibly known what they knew, or have been as advanced as they were for the time period in which they existed. You never know:D

We are just a speck in the realm of space.

I love watching shows on what that telescope reveals.

No doubt in my mind we have never been alone.

I have been fascinated with space exploration since I was a kid. This news doesn't really come as any huge shock, but it really is amazing. Its always been my hope that we can see even more before I croak.

I agree Dan, I have always hoped that we find something awesome out there before I hit the dirt.

Me too, I always loved the "bigger then all of us" feeling when you think about what is really out there or could be out there.

    This is a great video

And yeah, I agree with everyone else that any logical person could have guessed that there are many Earth-like planets in the universe, but nobody thought there were this many, this close.

Agreed. To think that it could be 4.5 billion in our own galaxy is mind boggling. Imagine what the rest of the universe holds.

I have often times lost my self completely in thoughts of the "end of space" or what "contains space". It's absolutely incredible.

That video is great. Shows how small we really are. Also shows how arrogant it would be to think that we are the only life in the universe.

Agreed. I have found myself laying on the dock at camp in Ontario staring at the stars more than just a few times. We would even drive 4 miles from camp and lay on the top of a huge rock outcrop and stare at the sky on moonless nights. Its amazing how dark it gets and what you can see. Gives me goose bumps thinking about it.

Exactly. My favorite is summer nights when you can really see the milk way. Get away from all of the lights and get out in the woods. It really does make you speechless.

To bad is was all just one big accident that has no meaning....

    Yeh I went there.

Honestly, I can't fathom what this Universe holds... kinda takes your mind to a "weird" place when you think about it hard enough...

It is hard to fathom something that you have to travel at the speed of light for 13 years as "near" but it is in space terms

It makes it all that more wonderful knowing that life is just one big accident.

7 out of the top 10 movies of all time are about fictional universes where impossible things happen. People love to believe and wonder.

    We are not alone.

EVen at 13 light years, we would never actually meet any other light forms. Thats a huge distance!
