Simple question, no dis'ing involved.Since 45 ft/lbs is needed for deer and 55 ft/lbs is needed for large game, once you're over that, what difference does it make "where I stand"?

Haven't you heard? It's cool to measure how far your arrow is sticking in the ground after your pass through. ;)

Seriously though, when we talk KE. It is measured near where the arrow leaves the bow. As the arrow flies it is losing speed and therefore KE. I could see a guy out west, shooting extended distances wanting a fudge factor to ensure when his arrow hits the deer he still has 45ft/lbs (or 55 ft/lbs) left.

    Oh and my KE is 422 grains @ 232fps = 50.45 ft/lbs for me

Personally I would rather have more KE than not enough. Your not going to ruin any more meat with by having more than required.

    420grns@270fps= 68 ft/lbs of KE

    465gr @ 260 fps = 69.8ft-lbs KE.

I'm with backcountry. I like having the extra KE just to help out for a not so perfect shot if it were to happen.

I honestly don't know what my KE is as I don't even know my exact arrow speed...probably around 52-55 lbs if I estimate the numbers and put them a KE calculator?

I have always had pass-throughs on whitetails and bears...thats all that matters to me I guess

I think the OP is going for more of a do I have enough, as in where do I stand in terms of being adequate. I could be wrong, but i do not think he was seeing if he had the most KE on the board.

To be honest, I have never known what any of my Bows KE has been in 30+ years of hunting, If I can get it in the Boiler room it does the trick!

Why do people still believe that you need 45 ft/lb or anything to kill a deer with a bow.The KE doesn't do the killing,it is the massive hole and hemoraging it causes. As well as deflating the lungs.KE is a horrible predictor of potential penetration.

My son killed his deer last year with about 32 ft/lb ke and had a complete passthrough with the arrow sticking in a tree.

Sorry for the hijack,I am around 57 ft/lb ke.

You are above average with your setup.

thanks for all the posts. i just got board and figured out what my KE was and wondered what everyone else was shooting. i didnt care what its was cause my bow is smokin'. i worry about shot placement more than anything.
