Ok. Like everyone else I'm very upset about the school shooting. But on a positive note, it's really ramped up my own awareness. One thing to me that became very clear is I have not taught my children what to do and how to react to both an active shooter and home invasion. If someone breaks into our home while we are in it, there is a very high probability of gunfire.

So I've been searching the Internet and I've found a helpful article here and there, but nothing of what I'm really looking for. What I really want is a book or some other resource that teaches ME what to teach my girls to be safe.

Yes. I know some of this is common sense. Get the hell out if possible. Distance. All of those things. But let's face it. That's not always an option. I have told them that if a break in happens at home, and they can't get out fast, to lay as flat on the floor as they can get, preferably behind something. My fear of course is them being hit with a bullet after it passes through a bedroom wall. If they are flat on the ground they more out of the line of fire.

Anyway. I digress. Can anyone point me to se resources that help teach these things? Books. Websites. Articles. Anything will be helpful.

My oldest son's school did a "Intruder Drill" today. 1. Close door (lock if possible) 2. Get kids behind teachers desk. 3. Shut lights off. 4. Keep kids quiet. That’s about as reassuring to me as getting under a desk for a nuclear bomb drill in the 50's.

Unfortunately, with the wacko's out there, no where is safe. If guns are outlawed and actually not available to anyone, the wacko's will McVey it or come up with some other way to accomplish their deed. If you want your children safer, you will have to home school them and then keep your property in a manner that is not inviting to sick people.
