Seasons are in full swing and the rut is at the doorstep. Make sure your shooting/bow is too. Everyone shoots well ahead of the season and makes sure they are dialed in. Then it seems too often when we get caught up in the craziness of hunting we forget to shoot some arrows to make sure you're still on. Take a few minutes after a morning hunt and go fling some arrows with your hunting clothes on. Don't let that wallhanger be at the other end of an arrow that wasn't shot perfect!
Good reminder. I do that maybe once a week (usually on Sundays when I can't hunt). Sometimes, I think that is not enough but its better than nothing.
I shoot about twice a week during the season, and its helped me very little. What a waste of time that practice has been. Shooting again after work today, so I hopefully don't miss for a third time this year.
Great reminder- It can definitely build up your confidence or if something got knocked off you can easily fix it!
Just shot last night at the bow shop here at school for about an hour.... it's always good to practice a couple times a week or at least before heading out to make sure that something didn't get knocked loose and move.
Great Post! Yesterday while standing up I knocked my bow of the tree step it was on (Cant find my hanger) ... it falls 18 feet to the ground. 1st thought ... is the bow damaged? No 2nd thought ... are ALL arrows ok? Yep Last thought ... Gotta shoot it and see if the sight is off Went to brothers at lunch to sight in .... Shot it at 10 yards with broadhead(didnt wanna put it into woodpile) dead center ... moved to 20 ...dead center ....30 .... dead center... That night, I realized how much more psyched I was to get a shot opportunity knowing that whatever was after the pin, dies. One last thing ... most know about my drought (which is now over ) I realized that I just need to trust the arrow ... I think I was worrying and not following thru and just not dialing in on a spot and letting the arrow go, trusting completely that it will hit its target ... I felt that's what I was doing when I shoot at a target .... so the shooting yesterday afternoon accomplished so much for me ....
I always shoot an arrow with a dull broadhead at a leaf or something from the stand before I get down. I also carry my target in the truck all the time.
Shot my bow last Sunday, and everything was dialed in. Tomorrow I start my 6 day vacation of stand time. Figured I would fling a few arrows just to double check that everything was ready to roll. First arrow at 20 yards hits about 3 inches off. 2nd arrow does the same. As I continued on to 30, 40, 50 it got worse. Ended up just being that my sight had slipped a bit, but I'm back on track and ready to rock for the A.M. hunt!
