    Hey all,

I don't mean to bring anyone down, but this week I have been given a grim reminder on how quickly life can change.

I am an Army Reservist from Iowa currently serving on my second deployment. Being in the military, I am all too familiar with the dreaded "S-word", or suicide. This week I have had two good friends lose someone to taking their own life. These individuals seemingly were completely happy, normal, and showed no signs of depression whatsoever. These are the third and forth people I have known, or known through a friend in the last 3 years that have been lost to suicide.

The reason I bring this up is not to have some sob story or to garner sympathy, but to perhaps bring something positive out of such a sad situation. Sitting here I can't help but wonder if a simple well-timed phone call or conversation with an old friend could have made a difference between life or death for these people. So tonight I am making it my personal goal to contact every one of my close friends and family and let them know how much they mean to me and that I will be there no matter how bad life gets, whether it be by Skype, phone call, e-mail, Facebook, whatever. I would also encourage anyone else to do the same. You may think you know somebody, but they can be gone in the blink of an eye and you don't want someone close to you leaving this Earth without them truly knowing how you feel.

This can be very uncomfortable to many, and it is even uncomfortable to me to write this, but I think those around you will appreciate the effort. That said, I want to start by saying that I love this site and I love the web show! I don't log on terribly often, but when I do everyone is very nice and helpful. It is almost like a big family of sorts. I have missed 2 of the last 3 deer seasons, but still tune in every Friday so watch the show because it makes me feel a little closer to home. Thanks for everything and I hope everyone had a great season!
