What's your thought on Brownback tax plan he enacted in 2011-2012, being this is the model President wants to follow. I see now there is some backlash, but not sure because news is so slanted these days.
Not from Kansas and only know a bit about it but, hasn't it been a complete disaster? His own party hates him, has the 2nd highest disapproval rating in the country ( after Christie), budget shortfalls. I've heard interviews with business owners when asked if they were able to hire more people with the huge tax cuts they said no they just kept the money (big surprise). So I'd say it's going well.
I can't speak for Kansas residents but I live close to the border and spend as much time on the Kansas side of Kansas City as I do on the Missouri side. The one observations I will make is that businesses are choosing to build on Kansas side over the Missouri side. The growth and development in Olathe, Overland Park, Shawnee has been exponential compared what is happening on the Missouri side. I can't say for sure why but I would assume greater tax benefits for businesses. I know residents of those Kansas towns pay quite a bit higher property taxes and I feel like the sales taxes are a little higher than on the Missouri side as well.
Have you ever been to Kansas? Could be that Kansas is ranked 35th in population. Missouri is 18th, Colorado is 21st, Oklahoma is 28th. Only Nebraska has a smaller population of the states that surround Kansas. 95% of Kansas is farm ground or prairie. If you take out the Kansas City Kansas Metro area, Wichita and Topeka are the only cities with a population over over 100,000. Amazon literally just opened it's second major distribution center in the state of Kansas. This new center will have over 1,000 full time jobs. That seems fairly significant to me considering those are jobs that went to Kansas instead of Missouri. http://www.togetherweteach.com/TWTIC/uscityinfo/16ks/kspopr/16kspr.htm
What I read is the new job creation did not happen at the pace or velocity to cover the lost tax revenue. So, of course, they made cuts to education and infrastructure. Apparently the people of Kansas like those services, again it's hard to get the facts.
I don't have any complaints and things look fine here. I see economic growth and new business all around here. I can't speak for all of KS. We don't seem to have any Chicago level problems that I've seen.
I have not noticed any infrastructure cuts. There's still road construction around every corner in the KC metro area. I think Kansas could be a pretty tough draw to get companies to build their offices/plants. Tax credits might be the only way to entice those business into Kansas when there are other more desirable states. I think like all states, there's probably plenty of fat that needs to be cut from the budget. I don't have any idea what budgets are being cut but my guess is they could use to go on a diet anyways.
Well if you look at the budget there were cuts, lol Maybe the folks out in the rural areas got screwed.
Dunno, probably, we do at most every turn. MO's roads here locally are in far worse condition than KS though.
