Played hooky from work on Friday and headed to Kansas to try my luck one more time. I had been getting emails sent to me of numerous shooter bucks and had to get it a shot. I got there about 2 pm but my buddy got hung up at work had his wife come and get me and drop me off. I climbed in at 410 and about 455 made a (what I thought at the time) nice shot on this buck at about 15 yards quartering away. I watched him run about 10 yards then walk another 10 yards and bed down. I did a bit of a happy dance in the stand but after watching him for almost an hour stand up and move a ways and lay back down I knew my shot was a touch back farther than it should have been even thou I could see the blood dripping off my arrow where it was stuck in the ground after it passed through him. The last 3 times he stood he did a half circle and laid back down. I got down and snuck out. We came back about 4 hours later as I worried the coyotes would find him and too my amazement we jumped him still alive that left us no choice but to leave him overnight so we bailed. Luckily after a short search in the morning we found him and the coyotes had not :D
Congrats Pat. Looking at the exit hole I can see how you'd have done the happy dance. One tough animal! Way to make it happen.
Our hat company sent us that as a Christmas card and I said if I got one I would wear it for a pic :D
