I have some family in Topeka and I'dlove to shoot a Kansas giant. How long does it typically take to draw a tag?

Archery tags can typically be drawn the first time you apply.

Tags for Kansas have already been drawn for this year, but you may can still a leftover tag. Check their website for the unit you want to hunt to see if they had any left over from the draw.

Thanks guys, I got a baby coming in December so I'm aiming to hunt there next year. Was hoping I wouldn't have to wait too long to get one.

Shouldn't be a problem, just remember to get your app in on time.

If you're a linear relative and they own more than 80 acres you can get a hunt your own land tag over the counter....at least that's how it was a few years ago

If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by linear relative? I have family (aunts, uncle, cousins, etc) in the NE corner of Kansas, and that's where we're going next year to hunt. We were just gonna put in for the draw, but now I am curious if this some we might could do.

If I remember right, linear was defined as parents, siblings, and grandparents by blood or through marriage. But I haven't looked at that section of the rule book for years! You may just call up KDWP and ask them about how to qualify for a hunt your own land tag. If you can get it, it's about a tenth of the cost of the lottery process
