Oh it has to be HUGE. Hard to say honestly but why not put out a camera and find out?

Being serious back in the day before trail cameras people who scouted for size would rake over a scrape and hope to get a hoof print to measure to see if it was a mature deer.

It could have been any deer or multiple deer.

There is a thing like a community rub in the deer woods. Where all the bucks come and rub the tree, usually it's a pretty big tree. I've seen some big rubs that where probably community rubs. So yeah it is probably multiple deer.

That being said, I have seen a tree that was about 8-10 inches in diameter that was rubbed over night in our woods. Later that week I wounded a 180 inch deer that we suspect made that rub. Fortunately, he lived, we have video of him running around just fine after season closed.

I've heard people say the bigger the rub the bigger the buck but I've seen 2 year old 6 points hook trees that big. I've also seen a 140" buck rub small trees. So trail camera is your best bet.

One thing is for sure with rubs.....big rubs come from big deer. Small rubs come from both big and small.
