So I went to my buddies shop today. I got to hear about a guy that came in with his bow last minute and wanted it fixed now. My buddy told him what was wrong and what had to be done and the guy left and took it to another shop. The other shop told him something different so he brought it back to my buddies shop and told him to fix what the other place told him was wrong. When he refused to fix that the guy got all irrate and started swearing at my buddy then left. Then he calls to continue to yell at him. Why do so many guys wait until the week before a hunt to shoot thier bow and then find out there is something wrong and want the shop to fix it right NOW.
I hung out at the local archery shop the day before opener here and so the same thing WAY too many times
that would be a quick way to get banned from the shop i go to if they did that much complaining and/or just plain disrespect to the staff.
I was at the shop I frequent and it was the same way. Everyone thinks they are special and the store has no other customers but them. But waiting till the last minute is the same with anything not just archery. I would have banned himcrom the store if I was the owner. Sent from my T8788 using Board Express
Ill tell you why ill be there in 2 weeks doing the same thing. Because In the past 3 years Ive only spent 2 months in the United States. It may not be the case in this particular situation but you never know. Just think before you judge.
It happens to me every year here at my shop , tomorrow i will close my shop and will be open when i want too till my season is over , no more last minute bull crap for me , and i warned them in advance , get it in now before its to late or take it somewhere else .
it is not the fact the person came in right before season needing stuff done, it was how he conducted himself with is actions and cussing out the staff. being a soldier i am sure you will not throw a fit and do what that guy did because you did not get your way. i am sure if that person had conducted himself in some sort of respectful manner things might have been different. like said, every situation is different.
I bent a cam this spring right before a turkey hunt, and the shop I bought the bow from closed down a few weeks after I had bought it. Called the next closest shop that carried Hoyt, and the owner started swearing at ME because I was "f***ing hard working shop owners by not getting your POS fixed where you f***ing bought it". Once he started swearing at me, things got heated pretty quickly. As a customer, you shouldnt have to tolerate that, and I submitted a formal complaint to Hoyt and the local Hoyt Rep. Ive ran into similar issues with poor customer service twice in the past year at local shops, and Ive taken the same route with each by calling their reps and companies they deal. So Id say its not ALWAYS the shooter that has issues...99% of the time it is though! Im sure a lot of people are thinking I did something wrong like what the OP stated, but I wasnt!
Us army mp, first thank you for your service. second if you came in to the shop and explained your sittuation your bow would be handled with out a problem. But keep in mind the customer came in then left then came back and wanted the repairs that a different shop told him he needed done telling my buddy that he was wrong with what he had told him was wrong with his bow. so my question would be why did'nt he have the other shop fix it. Hoythews71: Shops close all of the time and I can promises you if you brought your bow in to my buddies shop he would be more than happy to help you. It does'nt matter where you bought your bow to him. Not all shops are great and not all techs are great but I do not understand why some guys go in there thinking that just because they walked in the door the should be first in line to have what ever they need done taken care of.
Probably because thats the norm they are used to. If the bow cant be looked at or fixed within 24 hours the shop should hire more help honestly. They should know by now, its like it every year. My experience with my shop during those busy weeks... Walk into the shop, take my bow to the counter. "I need a new string and cables." They reply, "any particluar brand?" I say "Zebra". My bow was handed back to me in less than 10 minutes. There were other staff helping other people and a couple techs working on bows at that time. Another guy had walked in not long before me needing a new cam, they had the bow disassembled, new cam on and put back together in just over half an hour.
Hey you should see if you can bring your bow with you on your deployments. I have brought both my bow and block target with me on everyone of my deployments, along with the tools for minor maintenance. I actually broke one of my modules and bear sent me one to my deployed location at no charge. I also have know others who have brought bows with on deployments. Im actually trying to get in a hunting trip when i get to my forward deployed location. It's worth a try? Good luck and stay safe!
I appreciate the thanks guys but that isn't why I commented. A lot of you as well as countless other threads have brought up the same issue. However in a case like this they was absolutely wrong, but what if the guy didn't have the money for it til now. I know plenty of people who cant afford to do anything big until right before season. The only reason they can is that it will help offset the cost at the grocery store. I'm not standing up for this guy but before you guys down people for this, try to think about those less fortunate than you. Its always not just laziness that causes this
Good point Steven, there are exceptions to the rule such as in your case. I do get what the OP's saying though. I purposely stay out of ****'s and Gander Mountain the two weeks leading up to the season, because it makes my stomach turn. My favorite line was a few years ago.....(two guys at the checkout, one with a bow and all the acc's, the other holding a bag of acorn rage....illegal in PA) New Bow Guy: "It's dark out and the season starts tomorrow, don't I have to shoot this thing?" Acorn Rage Guy: "Don't worry, I can get it close enough without even shooting it."
On the other hand, why is it when you walk into a shop and theirs three guys sitting around BSing with each other and seem bothered that you came in? You need something done that will take them 15-20min to do but they want you to drop your bow off and call them in a day or two:-/ It irritates me so much that I've now got three shops I go to if I can't fix it myself or I just forget about it. They act like your asking them to do it for free or something. I own my own business and I make it appoint to try to get every customer to feel like THEY are my best or favorite account. It works. Leave your BS and tough guy act at home if your getting paid to do a job, do it. But I don't want to go off on a rant
Was this at Pete's shop? If so he is a straight shooter so why did this idiot just not have the other shop fix it? Better yet where did he get the opinion? I took my bow in two weeks ago and advised to get it done when he had time and said I'm sure you got higher demands
Really comes down to the three main reasons you see guys rallying at the last minute to get ready. In order of most common. 1. Many hunters just aren't as serious about bow hunting as most of the people you see here. Its just not as important to them. The effort reflects that. Irresponsible in a way, but I think most of them don't realize that. 2. Bows and parts will fail. Some times this happens the day before the season starts. Not always the hunters fault. 3. Newer bows are easy to setup and easier to shoot. In the right hands, a new bow can be shooting accurately in a matter of minutes.
I like Vito's #1 reason best. I think that most guys are not as serious as well as extremely un-educated about tuning in general. This leads to them not touching their bows until a week or two before the season. For most of us on here it is just natural to keep up on the maintanence and tuning aspect of our bows. It's what we have a passion and love for. I like Vito's point about how most of them don't even realize how irresponsible and lazy they are when it comes to bowhunting. I think it is spot on and unfortunately there always have and always will be these types of hunters. It is our job to try and help them become better and educate them. On a side note, If you want to see something scary go to your local Walmart right now and just watch the arrow bin for about 30 minutes. Utter amazement to see something like this. If you can stand it try to help one of those guys out. I try sometimes. Sometimes it goes well and other times not so well, but at least you tried.
