The youngest of six (she's 18) is now on her way to MEPS to ship out tomorrow morning. There are always mixed emotions when one leaves the nest, but the mixed emotions are all jumbled when it comes to Sandy. She was the one that stuck by my side through thick and thin. I remember a few years ago when I was putting up a three rail fence around the front pasture. She was helping me and it was a miserably hot day. I was also having some dozer work done. The dozer operator commented to me at the end of the day about how impressed with her he had been. He watched her sticking with me right through the heat of the day; not because I told her to but because she wanted to be with me doing what I was doing. She was the only one of the three girls who ever joined me on a deer stand. I know she'll be okay, but a Dad can't help but worry about his little girl rushing out to meet the big world head-on. A lot of you know what I mean. I'm really going to miss her being around here.
Tell her all veterans and retirees thank her for her willingness to serve this country! Be proud Papa!!!
Awww, you're making me all misty eyed here LC. I think I know exactly how you must feel. My baby girl is going to 15 in a few weeks and it seems to be going by faster everyday. It feels like only yesterday she had chubby legs and a fudgesicle goatee. Good job to you and Mrs LC on raising such fine children Sir! This thread just made my whole day.
With you as her father she should excel and I am sure she will. I have 7 years until my baby is 18. It is already going by to fast. I feel for you, Johnny.
I feel your pain.My daughter is also 18 and will be heading to college in a few weeks. She made the dance team and has already had to make a few trips but in a few weeks, she won't be coming home the next day. She also joined me in the deer woods and has killed a bigger buck than me. Tell daughter thanks for me.
LittleChief, seems as though you raised a great young woman. For that you should be proud. I remember when I left home and my mother telling me my father was really having a tough time. We do so many thing together. I wish your daughter and you the best.
Yes she is. After basic she'll be headed to two years of training at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California to become a Cryptologic Technician Interpreter.
Awesome good luck to her. I may enlist as a pharmacist once I finish up school in a few years working through the IHS and medical corp serving various military bases...haven't decided yet. Very cool field she is going into from the sound of it.
If she's able to keep up with the "Old Man" then you have done well sir. she has choosen a field that will open so many opertunities as well as life experiances you just don't get with college. Is her plan to attend college after service?
