So I went for my 5K run in Auburn yesterday while Zach swam. I do this every Thursday and then go for a 3-4000swim myself. There is one intersection I usually run "through." Yesterday, I turned around at the intersection instead of following my normal routine, even though there wasn't much traffic. I don't really know why. As soon as I turned my back... I heard it. A Ford Ranger and a Tahoe... hard collision right where I would have been had I crossed there as usual. Wow... that really shook me up. There were no serious injuries but it sure made me think about all the times a split second decision... another insignificant (at the time) option could have devastating consequences. Every heart beat is a pricelss gift... I am so thankful for what didn't happen... sometimes I get so wrapped up in what did experience that I forget to say thank You for what I was spared from without even knowing about it. Just a thought.
Wow something like that would definitely put things in perspective real quick. I'm sure glad that you for some unexplained reason deviated from your normal routine. God bless
Glad your ok - gotta pay attention at all times. When I was running in Track and XC in college me and my teammates were on a distance run - about 20 of us. We had a slight gap between me and maybe 6 or 7 of us back about 80 meters to the rest of the guys. A car goes to pass a car on the left side. Problem was when this car moved over to pass the car on the left that car decided he was going to turn off onto a road left - turns right into the car sending it off in between the two groups of teammates. Car goes off into the ditch at about 40 mph. Everyone walked away ok that day - but man what a close call. We could feel that crash - your heart just stops for a second and you have to try and process what the hell just almost happened. If that car had hit one or all of us I'd hate to think what would have happened.
Wow, that's freaky, glad you are ok. I run a lot, but after a few close calls, I've been limiting my time along the side of the road in favor of park roads & trails. I am lucky to have a few close to me that I can easily get to without having to run along the road.
I normally run in less congested areas except during Zach's swim practices. Sitting idle for 3 hours is not my idea of time management besides next week it will be dark by 5:00 ish. I think I will find a new route from now on. Maybe I'll grab a football and run inside Jordan Hare stadium... no one else is doing that in there very much. LOL
