Ok trad encyclopedias, help is needed yet again. I am trying to solve this left kick problem with my form. I am getting much better about POI, hitting pretty well in the general area that I am aiming for. But I still notice the left kick and I know my grip isnt a problem, I use the same grip on my compound with no torque problem at all. My question for you guys is as follows: Using a split finger placement how deep on your fingers do you put the string. I am putting it in the groove of my finger closest to the tip of my finger. Then keeping constant back pressure and relaxing my hand, the only problem is I cant really relax my fingers when the string is that close to the tip of my fingers. Is it ok to put the string a little deeper?? Thanks guys.
I know some people who really grip that string and have no problems at all. If I did It like that I'd be plucking arrows all over. Some people can do It, others can't. Give It a try! Just for the hell of It try and find a 1916 arrow and see If you get kick out of that.
Try a deep hook, worked well for me! My hook is to the first crease in my fingers! How is your nock fit, do your arrows snap on the string?? Did you try turning your grip hand, away from you face, palm up?? You could be torquing the string, this gets my arrows all over the place!
I will go and get me a 2016 today schultzy, The nock has like a 2 click thing to it, and so I just put it in the first click, it isnt very tight at all. And I paid real close attention to lining up my hand with the string, after you told me that could help the other day. Thanks guys.
Could be several things. Form, or arrow spine. If it happens off and one, I’d say you are hand torque. In other words, gripping the bow tighter upon release. If it is all the time, it could be either. If it is happening all the time, Id bare shaft my arrows and see if it is the spine.
Not sure if I missed it but are you shooting off the shelf or an elevated rest?? Plastic or feathers?? Just for fun.. try shooting cock feather in and see if it still kicks. Also, where is your nocking point set?? woodsman
So your arrow snaps on the string?? I like being ably to have an arrow nocked, tilt my bow so the arrows faces the ground and being able to tap my string so the arrow will fall of. Not to loose though! With a looser fitting nock your bow will also be quieter! You can sand the inside of the nock so the ears aren't so tight or have your sting reserved to fit your nock. I sanded mine at first to see if it helped, and it did! You don't want a space between the string and the nock.
Zach. When you get to anchor relax your fingers and let the string pull out. But I think Joe hit the nail on the head with the nocks being too tight.
Off the shelf, feathers and 1/4 " above level. I will sure as heck try moving the feathers around. Thanks.
BowHuntingFool wins>>>------> tip of the week. Well I spent a little time and sanded down the nocks. The string on my bow is real new so there is not a key slot at all, in othe words the nock was pretty freaking tight I guess. Not only did my arrows fly straight but the shot seemed a little quieter, no twang. Thanks man so much for the tip. I shot this at 20 steps in my horse/hay/shooting lane barn. It is lit and 23 yrds long so I spend a lot of time there in the evenings after work. Thanks again BHF you da man. :d
SWEET!!!!! I have found this is one of the biggest things that is overlooked, ask me how I know! Glad I could help bro! Nice shooting, the smile says it all!
Sounds like things are worked out. Keep in mind that if the nock is too tight the arrow is already in paradox before coming off the string and will general impact left for a right handed shooter. I was a huge fan of Mercury nocks. Too bad they don't make them anymore. Luckily I did scalp 100's of them. :-)
What I usually do is keep track of the serving size and number of strand (and type) of string which works best for a particular nock. Then I just stick with the setup. Nothing wrong with sanding or dunking the nock it boiling water except that each and every nock will be treated the same way.
