While BOWHUNTING with some fellow members this past weekend, we went out for wings and a debate started.

I mentioned something about wings, are wings and the drumstick which is what we call part of the wing is actually the base of the wing. Matt / PA was adamant that the drumstick was from the leg....NO I said, it's wing and of course RJ and Jaws agreed with Matt.....

    I'm here to say....EEEEERRRRRRTTTT! :busted:

Take a look here buddies! And man were they good, they almost tasted as good as this post....LOL

    Behold, the feather-less rooster.

From this picture, you can clearly see where things come from:

Thank you Bols, but I'd imagine Matt, Matt and Dan will avoid this thread like the plague. LOL

Sorry Rob, We always called the drumstick was the leg. The wing was uaually the whole wing, but I've heard the upper leg reffered to as a "drummette"

    ??

Drumstick = leg (fused tibia/fibia portion).

Drummette = proximal portion of wing (humerus).

    You guys = inebriated. ;)

a wing is a wing and a drumstick is a drumstick usually the leg. Drumette is the uper part of the wing.

I agree Andy, the drumstick is part of the leg but there are no leg parts when your eating wings. It's the upper and middle part of the wings when eating buffalo wings.

The damn thing still doesn't LOOK like the humerus of a chicken........at least in your diagram.
    LOL:d

So I guess we're even "Mr. I'd bet my house you can't spotlight in PA with a licensed pistol in the truck" :hater:

I thought's Matt's theory was pretty sound, except for the part that they were "mini" roosters to have leg drumsticks that small.......lol.

If that were true (that they were cut from the wing) wouldn't we see the cut marks on it where it was cut off the upper part of the wing? The drummies I eat have the skin intact all the way around... leading me to believe that they're part of the upper leg off a small little chicken like Matt said. :whip:

I have this mental picture of a 6" tall chicken running around to have drumsticks that small.......lol.

No the drummette is the upper part of the wing. I've cleavered many a wing. The wing tips are saved for the stock pot

Somebody explain to me how old these birds are when they are cleaned? I've been to Hooters with their pathetically small wings that are seriously tiny........and then to a place like we were at this weekend where they are easily 2-3 times bigger and heavier.

An adult chicken's wing is pretty big?

I was told that these wings come from roosters that are killed early because you can only have so many adult roosters in a chicken farm or they'll just kill each other. Since eggs are basically 50% roosters, they raise them to a certain age and then WHACK, off to Hooters before they become a problem. :d

They kill off the chickens waaaay before their rooster aggresiveness takes hold. They're usually only around 8 weeks old.
