For some reason, every July I start getting hyper-focused as the hunting season approaches. More attention is put into my shooting, my overall strategy and for some reason the hunting peaks just start standing out when the sun starts blazing in July. Three months and counting before lift-off in the deer woods. YOU GOTTA LOVE BOWHUNTING as one never knows when the current season will be their last.
I agree Brett. The gauge I use is when the days start getting shorter instead of longer; which is June 21st. I am really starting to cross my t's and dot my I's. I plan to do some serious long distance shooting this weekend. This time frame seems like it is a long time when you look at a calender but I know it will go fast.
100% agreeance with you here. This year has been my best off/pre season yet as far as shooting and fitness goes. Although I have not got to backpack/scout as much as I would like due to working nights the past few months. Should be on days in a week or so. I'm so much more determined this year to take the hunting season by the "love jollies" and stomp it into the ground. I'm going to hunt harder, stay out longer, and go further. Final supplies are being bought and tested prior to season. 2 months to go till the elk are in trouble. Bring it on!
Yep, it seems to sneak up on me my the end of June. I hung two sets the other day, so all of my current stands are hung (need to add and hang two more), I mowed the clover plot yesterday, and hopefully my shooting will pick up.
Yep, maybe even a little earlier! I love to start scouting elk as soon as the roads are passable in the high country, usually around mid June. I do need to start shooting more!
I was out on Sunday for 3 hours in the miserable heat from 10-1pm. Burning hot sun and ticks and I walked some terrain I have hunted for years. I just had a feeling about a spot and went in and really took a look at it and found 5-6 doe beds. I had a feeling for years they were bedded in a certain spot but just really never looked. After that long hike all I found was 5-6 doe beds and I was happy just to add another piece to the large puzzle. I have to get myself back into shape because I have been exhausted for the past 5-6 weeks with mono. I ran for the first time in 2 months just two days ago and began some basic fitness moves. Good thing is that I lost 5-6 pounds over the past two months so at least I did not gain any weight. I feel like I have that feeling in the movie The Highlander, the Reckoning...hahaha
I have tomorrow and all of next week off. By the time I get back to work, I will have the remaining 6 or 7 sets hung, my second bow tuned, and my plots will be mowed and or sprayed. The last few days of 50 deg nights with a cooler breeze blowing during the day has me just hyped to no end. Yeah, it's gonna be 95 this weekend and I'll be loving life on the river, but my hunting fire has been stoked a bit this last week. Here, here Duke. I plan on many, many more.
No doubt I'm getting ready. Been shooting every day. Going to the farm tomorrow to cut the clover. 2 months from today I'll be in the woods!
Yep same here. The bowhunting juices really get cooking around the end of June/begining of July. Going to hang 2 sets today and put a couple more cameras out. Gotta love this stuff!!!!
yep july is the month when the juices start flowing...late Aug and early Sept Im a basket case! Talking to myself, yelling out and clapping my hands and that's when nobody is home....
Ben, what's in your plots now? I mowed my clover plot two days ago, and I'm hoping we're not really going to be rainless for the next ten days as our forecast indicates. Funny you mention tuning the second bow. I just finished fetching my arrows for the backup rig, and plan to get it dialed in tomorrow.
