does any one here keep one? i have attempted to keep one for yrs but always fall off. this yr im determined! here is kinda how mine goes: what happened that day? wind? temp? baro? things i did well/things i need to do different time in the woods/time out/total time any have anything different? right now i am just writing it down but am looking to make an excel spread sheet just for ease...
I downloaded a spreadsheet type program to my Blackberry and every sit I can enter it while in the woods so I dont forget anything. I have date, time, # of deer, buck/doe, weather, wind, notes. This is my first year doing it. I know GMMAT keeps a nice log.
I keep one, and love to check it during hunting season. Wind direction, what I saw, time sat, etc. Last year I saw 110 deer in 111 hours sat in a tree. Doesn't mean much, but it's interesting to me.
i just started one as well. Where i went What time and how long How many deer and what i saw Wind/ Weather Date afternoon, or morning just basic notes I just do this because im bored at school, but i like doing it. It works out well towards middle to late season, because i can see were im gettin the most action, under what conditions and get a sense of wind at all my hunting spots.
Isaiah, I have an excel sheet that I'm using this year. I'll send you a copy of it if you'd like (PM me your email). I'm also tracking moon phase, if I used any calls etc.
I've been doing one for a few years now. In the past, I've just been keeping it updated in a Word document. This year I'm going to keep it in an excel spreadsheet. The totals and averages will be computed along the way, for each month and the entire season. If I need to add some notes...I'll do that in Word. I'll probably be adding notes everyday anyway. I like to log the direction the deer came from, if I called them in, and any other pertinent info.
For those that keep them, do you later sit down to try and analyze them for trends? or is a just to have it type of scenario?
I keep telling myself I'm going to do one but I don't. With the exception of one year when I did keep a half arsed journal. Even then, it's interesting to go back and read it. There's a lot I'd forget without it. Finch, can you send me the spreadsheet thingamabob? I'll need to add things like other hunter/jogger/hiker sightings.
Sure will...PM me with your email addy. I purposely left out Sunday dates since that is not allowed here in good ole Virginia. Not sure if it will make a difference for you or not.
I have 4 years worth of hunting on paper the only thing I can make out of it is I see more deer after a long rain.
For those with Blackberry's...you can get free spreadsheet app at: http://www.simprit.com/wap.wml I might give this a try as it would be easy to input on phone right before leaving stand each time...have not done journal in the past.
Always tried (keyword, "tried") to keep track of # deer, direction of movement, weather conditions (temperature, wind direction, frontal movements, etc.), moon phase, solar flares, etc., on my calendar. That way, I could make some correlations to improve my hunt. Sounds impressive, but I just don't put it together and use it like I should. OK, maybe I was kidding about the solar flares.
