Isn't that what agents are supposed to do? I'd be pissed if I hired an agent and he didn't push to get me as much as he possible could. The more he gets Flacco, the better he supports his family. What's the problem with that?
Yes, but when I wrote that post I thought he was losing credibility by asking for such insane money. I didn't think anyone would take him seriously because if it. I admit I was way off and ended up being totally wrong. Although I still don't see that kind of value in him but that doesn't matter. Like someone else said, he's worth what someone is willing to pay him.
The Ravens will regret this as their defense falls apart, they begin actually relying more on Flaco, and they now can't afford to sign other good players. I could be off, but I could see Rodgers taking the Brady approach to keep the Packers competitive... More years and more guaranteed money, but less per year to allow the team to sign people around him.
If Flacco is worth 20 million per year then Rodgers, Brady, and Peyton Manning are worth 40 million per year!
The deal isn't as selfish as it may seem. He structured the contract to allow the most available cap room and by signing, he freed up the franchise tag. The Ravens have been adamant that they will not make the same mistakes as they did after the 2000 SB win. They went and signed all the long time veterans to huge contracts and they fell a long way in doing so. I think they know what they're doing.
