I have been out every day for the last week, probably longer... There is just nothing out there. I swear, I have done everything but threaten people to give me a job. NO ONE IS Hireing. Dman this economy, Dman this state! For those that don't know, I was told that the account that I am on here for security, is being cut down to 25 hours a week. Instead of the normal 5pm to 8am. They just can't afford to have security here all night anymore. I am going to keep the 25 hour week job (obviously) until I can get something else. But like I said, its almost becoming futile. I was thinking of finding the nastiest, grubbiest clothes I have, and sitting around where my wife works, with a sign for change. I've heard that makes some money. . I just don't know anymore. What ever happened to our promise for "CHANGE" and "HOPE". I am loosing my "HOPE" in the "CHANGE". I'm sorry, that may be rude to say, but it's the truth.
That story is being told all over the country. My brother-in-law lost his job on Friday. Good luck with the search!
I know it. I just feel like an arse, because of the whole family thing, and not being supportive to her.
What do you like to do? What are you skilled in? I went the direction of the health care field & this field is still hiring. Are you able to change careers? Go for more education?
I was a Marine, I like to kill, eat, and sleep? No, really though, I was a Marine, more effectively, I was a cook in the Marines. Unfortunatly, nobody wants to hire a 3 year cook with no "real" degree, they would rather hire the guy with the $30,000 piece of paper, and only has experience making ramen in his dorm room, and the small portions they make in school. Maybe I am marketing myself all wrong. I have been told before that my "Quartermaster's school" diploma would not be accepted. But that was only a couple of places. Then I found my current job. I'm going for it. I am going to add that to my "Education" section on my Resume. Hell, at least I'll have something on there then. lol.
Do you like cooking for the masses? Look into cooking in a health care facility, ex. hospital, nursing home,(even schools, colleges) etc. Health care is such a secure way to go with the baby boomers getting older. Plus hospitals, nursing homes have great insurance. Just a thought
Believe me, I have been everywhere I can. There is a couple of hosp. around that are just too far for commute. Other than that, I have been everywhere. Hell, I even went to McD's. The manager said they weren't hireing, and I was probably over qualified anyways. He would have had to step down from his job. I would had to have slapped him for how nasty that place was in the back. :mad1: :smash:
yep, they've put a hiring freeze on at the Mcd's around here too. That's telling a lot isn't it. I just told my stepson (he's 26, going through a divorce, getting laid off @ Honda) that he needs to go back to school. He's got an associates in business that's not getting him anywhere. He's going to go for Physical Therapy Assistant. If things get really really serious for you I know that there is always a sure job for STNA's (It's State Tested Nursing Assistant here in Ohio. Not sure what they'd be called where you're from.) It's not glamorous, but, full time work is always available (here at least) and the benefits are good. I feel for ya. Our whole country is in a huge mess.
About two weeks ago, I went into Sportsmans warehouse, looking for a job. Low and behold, they weren't hiring either. Can't imagine why. Just for S's & G's, I went back the other day, and asked again. lol. I thought the manager was going to throw me out.
My boss woke me up this morning at 7 am...rich. He set up an interview for me at one of our Wells Fargo buildings. Great! So, wheres the job security in this? lol. kidding. I'll take anything right now. Going to go start on my resume for this, talk to yall later....
Hang in there, don't give up and don't get down on yourself. You might end up finding something alot better than you had. Best of luck, Keith
And I did... I've got a job-by daddy, I've got a job-by! I'm the backwards man, the backwards man, I can run back as fast as you can. priceless movie... But, yes, I did get the job. I slaughtered the two other people he was thinking of giving the position to. I start there on next monday. Working third shift. 11pm - 7am. Not internet for MNKK... I've got a REAL JOBBY NOW!!!!
I agree, it is tough right now. I graduate from UC this June, and I picked a bad time to be done. Oh well, I still have my current job that I've had for 7 years so at least I'll have steady work. But I understand what you were going through, a lot of places just aren't hiring right now. Congrats on the good news
