I saw an article in a Petersen's Bowhunting that said Jim Doughtery is dying from cancer. He was coues deer hunting last year and they had to carry him around. There was a picture of him and I never would have recognized him. I bet he only weighed 150 lbs. It didn't say if he was still alive or not, but he sure didn't look good in the pic.

Anyone have any more info on this?

I have conversed with some of Jim's family fairly recently and he's still hanging in there... it's obviously taken a huge toll on him, but it sounds like he's still fighting the good fight and doing pretty well.

I hate to hear that, his son is a member of this forum.

When I was a kid I remember his catalog, it had a glossy cover with a cougar on it.
To a young hunter it was my version of playboy, and I treasured it.

I wish him nothing but the best.

Very sad to hear, he's battled back from cancer once I believe, but the man's a trooper. Reading some of his stories just pulls you into the experience with him. Reading him talk about the frustration, all the while trying to keep a positive attitude really hits home for me as I take care of patients who will go through a gamut of emotions, attitudes, and challenges. He's a very well connected guy respected by nearly anyone who's ever been around him from what I've gathered, and a man that has truly blessed our sport. I pray that Jim can keep on "keepin' on."

I enjoy reading Jim's articles, and I'm sad to hear of his health issues. He always has a good sense of humor and the man has more bowhunting experiences in his pinky finger than I've had in my life. Just read an article the other day about hunting Africa in the old days, before water holes and box blinds. It made me chuckle.

I hope he can battle back and get healthy again.
