What is an athelete? That's the question. The answer is... he's a hockey player. I'm flippin back and forth between NBA prima donnas and the Stanley Cup. Hands down... hockey players are the ultimate athelete. I mean, they're going full speed, changing directions, getting whacked and driven into the boards non stop. In the mean time they have the hand eye cordination to use a damn stick to make a puck do whatever they want. They pass that puck like you and I would hand it to each other.... only they do it going 90 MPH, sometimes backwards or falling down and getting whacked by some body cruncher going 90 MPH in the other direction. How do they do it? Oh sure, they get a little rest when there is a line change... but even then they do it on the move with the clock running and no buzzer to stop play. Those guys are good. They're just fantastic. They take a beating and smile and grin with their 4 front teeth missing and say... man that was fun. Yes sir... an athelete is a hockey player. And then you have the NBA with their cute little head bands and their "let's take it easy until the last 2 minutes of the game" routine.
I totally agree watching the celtics heat game rite now and I have to shut it off. I can't watch the diving and acting going on in this professional sport. These guys are called athletes... All the NBA has turned into is a free throw contest and the refs dictate the game with their BS calls so fixed... Hockey on the other hand has its divers also but watching the game you can truly see how athletically gifted these guys are!!
I agree 100% Strenght, speed, agility, hand/eye coordination, toughness, stamina, etc... A hockey player has it all. Still pissed the Rangers lost btw. They were the better team. Dominated the Devils in that 2nd and 3rd period of game 6.
The least athletic person on the court during the Heat/Celtics game was more athletic than the most athletic person during the hockey game last night.
Agreed. Hockey players suck at everything but hockey. Basketball and then football have the greatest athletes in the world. Guys that could play multiple sports. Next thing you are going to tell me is that golfers are great athletes, too.
Well hockey players are pretty good golfers in general, as for basketball players being golfers, see Charles Barkly
Yes, because having great hand eye coordination is not an athletic trait at all Could a hockey player play basketball? Could a basketball play hockey? Those who state golf is not an athletic sport are those who cannot play golf at all IMO.
you guys are all wrong and full of it......the most athletic person is the tuba player in the band on the side line...do you know what chapped lips can do to him ??? disasterous !!!
Stop being the classic defender of hockey and golf guy. I never said they weren't athletes. I am saying those sports do not have the greatest athletes in the world, collectively. The second anyone mentions a sport besides basketball and football in a conversation of the "greatest athletes in the world", all credibility goes right out the window. Now if david wants to say hockey players try the hardest with their 45 second shifts on skates that can move you 10' with just one kick of your leg while playing 1/6 of the game, then fine. Argue away.
Btw what is funny is how all these great athletes cannot play golf, but love to try. I played football and basketball, both way easier than golf.
It's an apples to oranges comparison. And it also depends on what athletic qualities you are using to determine best athlete. Professional athletes in all major sports have to posses a huge skill set on top of being athletic. Some sports by thier nature can allow less athletic people to thrive if thier skill set is high enough and conversely, if someone is athletic enough, they can over come a weaker skill set. That said I am FAR & AWAY more impressed by a guy who skates thru 3 defenders, dekes the goalie & roofs it all while being hooked from behind than I am a 6'-6" guy that splits the seam and dunks a basketball.
