... it's time to get down to some serious hunting. As I walked my brothers dog tonight, the bullfrogs were in real form. The big deep gutteral Karump.... Karump... Karump of the bullgrogs was singing through the night air. I have 3 horseshoe ponds within a mile of my house.... long ago cut off from the creek/river. They're just packed with bullfrogs. I don't think anyone around here eats frog legs anymore. Hell, the kids today stay in the house and play computer games. They don't live on the river like we did when we were kids. My plan... be it with the 22 or the bow is to go gather me a feast. We're talking humongous bullfrogs. When I was a kid we gathered what was available and mom cooked it. Now... well... I guess I'll have to punch up Food TV.com and see how I should prepare my morsels. I know mom par boiled them and fried them..... but there's got to be a more refined way. LOL Frog legs are forthcoming.
Them bull frogs here in my neighborhood become road kill. I can hear them damn things talking all night as the pond is 80 yards from the house.IT harbors some big ass turtles to, I.m talking manhole cover size.. Leaving the hood on my MC one dark morning one jumped right into the motor behind my leg. Had to stop and get him out. He was still alive so I tossed him back in the ponds direction but they are dead in the road everyday.
Late night frog giggin is one of the best times there is...up until about 2 years ago (once we all had young kids) my buddies and I would do an annual frog giggin night on opening weekend here in IL...what a ball...we still talk of it often, and reminisce at the pictures of a table covered in frogs...knowing that we are only a couple years out from our own kids being old enough to take out. The Basic-ness of a long spear with a fork on the end...makes you feel pretty alive. Good Luck - Post us some pics!
