Well I just wasn't happy with my current setup and decided to try a brand I had never owned. I talked to a buddy and got a decent deal on a new Prime Rize from last year. I have had it a couple of weeks but due to work had not had time to set it up. This morning I got an early start and set her up. This afternoon after dinner I went out and shot a few arrows. Oh my. The poundage seems light and I have to measure it but once this thing is anchored its solid. It feels like you are not holding any weight and you almost have to push the string forward. Once it breaks though be ready!!. I set the center shot up at 13/16 as the manual recommended and arrow 90 degrees to the string. Used some levels to make sure it was all in order and snugged it down. the first few shots at 10 yards where a little low and to the left. A few minor adjustments and we were in. Back to 20. Arrows touching. Walked back tuned out to 40 and the center shot seems good so far. Still a lot to do but I spent more time tying on the d-loop than setting this thing up. I topped it off with a Black Gold Ascent Verdict with 1 pin, a Hamskea Hybrid Hunter Pro rest, and B-stinger stabilizer with a Shrewd quick disconnect. The only detractor is a distinct metallic sound at the shot. I have some husk-us coming so maybe that will help. I am however most impressed with just how well this bow holds on target. The hold weight is scary minimal but lets you concentrate on the shot not holding the bow. So its time to RIZE this year!!
It appears you are missing the damper that goes from string to string where the strings trek off the cams on both ends. That could be the majority of the noise you are hearing.
It runs from string to string. It's about a quarter inch tall and an inch wide. It removes that metal harmonic sound caused by the cams being parallel to one another. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Awesome. I love my Rize so far. Those little rubber dampeners only come on the Centergy's. However, I contacted Prime and they're sending me a couple to try on mine. I've also read that some folks take a piece of intertube rubber and put in there. The sound you're hearing is very distinct, but the bow is quiet. Its a by product of such a stiff riser. But, its plenty quiet and drives tacks. One other thing to try is a different string stop. I have a sims dampener on order to put on the stock one to see if that makes a difference. If not, I'll be ordering a Bowrattler for it.
I just stopped by the shop again yesterday messing with the Centergy, Centergy Air and the Rize... All three had the string dampers installed.
I just ordered a Centergy last Friday in FirstLite Fusion. It's definitely going to be a long 4-6 week wait for sure! I think I am going to order a bowrattler for it.
My Prime rival doesn't have that dampener on the string however there is a dampener on the string stop bar. But I picked up my prime about a month ago and love it (better than my halon x)! Tuning these is a learning curve though. I've been messing around with 2 different cam sizes both at the same draw. One is using the 85% let off that you described and one is at about 73%. I think I'm liking the higher holding weight with these (I have it set up for target at the moment not sure what I will use hunting). This probably won't be my last prime bow, they are extremely under rated and you can get them dirt cheap
I love new bow posts! Looks like a nice set up! You can order a set of dampers - I thought about switching mine out to pink on my bow. Happy Shooting!
Oddly enough I starting singing this to myself as I read the title of this thread. Congrats on the new purchase! Prime definitely seems to be picking up some speed in the market these days.
I've been shooting Prime bows since late 2012 and it tickles me when folks "discover" them as if they were a big secret. I've been shooting a Rival since November of 2015 and bought another black Rival in February of 2016 as my daily shooter. I became so fond of that one that I hunted with it last fall and killed several deer. Right after the '16 season, I found a good deal on a '16 closeout RTX camo Rival that is going to be my 2017 hunting bow. Once you figure them out, they set up pretty easily and hold tune very well with a good set of strings. Been shooting Catfish Customs made here in west Michigan as the builder has shot and owned Primes as well. If you haven't tried a Prime, you need to make it a point to at least shoot one and see what you think.
Love Fist Love Scar Love Break!!! Gotta love it! Couple of my buddies are actually in a band with Phil Anselmo right now. Crazy Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
There very few dealers around here and I had shot the G5 bows before and didn't care for the draw cycle. This one kinda fell into my lap and I have to say I'm glad it did so far.
