Good luck with the move and I am certainly jealous that you will be able to mingle with a lot of the people involved with this site!! We will be waiting for the pics of the first deer down in IL!!
Welcome to IL, I think. Right now the NE section of the state is in shambles over concealed carry and a 10 day window for enacting popular sporting rifle bans. Tread carefully when traveling through that portion of the state especially Cook county. Transportation of firearms is supposed to be regulated at the state level law, but would hate to see you welcomed with confiscation and an arrest. Hopefully you have already looked into firearm storage as IL requires the FOID card for residents and are currently 60-90 days back logged and I'm sure that will grow with the implementation of concealed carry in the works. Don't mean to be a Debbie downer, but have seen a few of your posts on the AR platform. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition. You planning on bow hunting this year? One of the admims(RockimgChair?) moved here recently, he could probably give ya incite on the specifics there, not sure if you'd have to go the expensive non resident route or not.
Congrats Matt. Cant wait for you to get here. Will have to bring the boat over to my cottage for some awesome bass fishing after all moved in! Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks everyone!! We are looking forward to getting out there and I'm sure I'll get to hang with many of you when we finally get on the ground. I can't wait for the moving part to be over and get settled in. Thank you and good luck in your move! I never responded to your thread, but I lived about an hour east of IUP at one point and I really think you will like the area. I'm lucky, I've got a moving budget that should allow me to have everything sent via a moving company. I'll have to tow the big boat out there and bring the guns and safe myself as most moving companies won't touch those. Right now I'm thinking I'll leave the guns behind with my inlaws and get the FOID process started ASAP when I'm on the ground and then drive out and back for the holidays to bring my guns back after I've got the card. I'm hopeful that they will let me use my existing training in NY to qualify for the 16 hours of CCW training out there, so with any luck I can get that permit quickly as well. It's possible I may end up really close to you.....there are a handful of places listed in Algonquin that are really nice that I'd pull the trigger on quickly if they are still available when we unload our place. Thanks Scott! I'm definitely excited to get a chance to hunt out there. This year I likely won't get as much time in as I'd like......if I can get there before the upcoming season is over I've already got a couple very generous offers to hunt as a guest so I'm sure I'll get out some. I can't wait for the 2014 season though, I'm going to prioritize getting access to some killer property out there by then. I've only got 2-5 years before I move back to NY so I've got some big buck killing to cross off the bucket list while I'm out there.
Looking forward to having you local! We are moving somewhere in the area, likely on the south end of Algonquin as the wife wants a bigger spread. Keep me posted on the move, can't wait to see you escape the NY area.
That's sweet dude! Congrats and best wishes and luck for you and the fam. I, like you, hate the packing and actual moving part of the process but I actually really like getting into a new place and unpacking and setting everything up in a new environment. That's fun stuff IMO.
Thought I'd provide a quick update for the local guys here. We ended up getting into a pretty nice place on the river in Cary. I'm pretty excited about it as it's got a lot more room than our current place and it's in a very quiet neighborhood. As of now, the plan is for the moving truck to show up 10/29, my house closing on the place in NY is on 10/31, and I'll be on the road to IL the morning of 11/1. I'll be driving out with the boat and pets and once the moving truck shows up and unloads all our stuff, my wife and son will be flying out 11/5. Looking forward to meeting a few more of you and getting a chance to hang out with those that I haven't seen in a while!
Can't wait man, we're going to tear up the town! And by that I mean our kids will probably play together in some park while we drink bottled water and talk about politics like a couple old dudes. As the crow flies you'll be about 3 miles from me.
