Max yardage today was 40 yrds, what killed me was I shot two 5's on two 20 yard targets  I dropped my arm  Best to guys shot 290 for a tie in hunter class that I shoot in, replacing those two 5's with 10's would have landed me second :)

Awesome place to shoot. Wish it were closer. Rob and I made it down there a number of times last year and plan to make it down again this year. We should hook up for a shoot.

I've been shooting our indoor Vegas spots league locally. Because of work travel, I've literally shot only 4 games this year at this point (3 weeks into the league, one game I shot for practice the first week of leagues). I'm running a 442 average with 25X's. Not great for me, but over the next few weeks I will have a lot more time to actually practice. I started seeing the coach 2 weeks ago, but haven't had a lot of time yet to apply what I need in practice. I'm executing really strong shots, but not setting up exactly the same every time it seems, and I'm also lacking in the self discipline area right now.....not letting down EVERY TIME when I know I probably should.

Just today I setup a bow for 3D. Our local shoots don't start till April, but I will be shooting the IBO Indoor 3D Nationals in Harrisburg (Sportsmans Show) in 2x weeks with Dan. I have a 12:30 line time on the first Saturday in MBO. I shot the 3D bow today REALLY well out to 50 yards, and will be working hard over the next 2 weeks to show up prepared. Historically I've shot less than stellar at this event because it's more of a yearly GTG for me and my college buddies........less just say I plan on not drinking the night before the event this year ;). I'll be carrying the rangefinder with me to work every day between now and then, and taking walks at lunch to practice my yardage.

It's been a year and a half since I shot 3D seriously. I haven't shot 3D since the GTG last summer, and only 2x events I think before that in 09', was just too occupied with wedding stuff. At this point, I've got one more summer and hunting season before we plan to have our first child. I've put too much into this game to not try and see where I stack up at the national level, and this is going to be the year for me to shoot as much as I can, and hunt hard all fall........I plan on taking full advantage of it. l will be shooting in as many local events as possible this year, and will also be shooting in our state IBO shoot, the largest regional event in the northeast (Tupper Lake Mountain Challenge), and I will most likely be attending IBO Worlds this year as well.

In previous years, I've got a handful of wins and a few more top 3's at the state championship and northeast regional level. I've also beaten a LOT of top 10 nationally ranked guys in local/state/regional venues.......but never actually shot at the national/worlds level. This year will be the first.

Let me know. I've been shooting with HoytPA84 and we've been enjoying it. Makes it nice only living 6 miles away.

We have a solid hour and half, it's really too bad that we don't have a more local place to shoot.

Especially considering the "popularity" of archery in our area.

I'm planning to put a recurve set up together for 3d this year. Last year I cried with losing arrows at 12 bucks a piece with my hunting rig

Not much 3D shooting here. Couple winters back I shot indoor trad 3D & had a blast. Last winter they changed format & the day of the week to something really dumb. This year the shop is closed.
If I am able to attend the Erie or Illinois GTG, I'll shoot there, but that's probably the extent of it. Maybe a "for fun" round here or there with some local BH.com peeps, if one were to be planned out.

3D is a lot of Fun, but I take most of my free time for Bowhunting and to be honest I won't travel anywhere to shoot something unless it bleeds.

3D was very popular back a few years ago, but to be honest it is pretty much a dead sport around here anymore. I heard they had plans on reviving the county Bowhunters club and putting in a range. If they do I'll probably be active in that venture :-)

I've got one of every NA McKenzie target under my deck and even a Delta Grizzly from our now defunct archery club. There's been pressure to put it all back together and organize some shoots but I honestly just don't have the time and/or motivation for it anymore. Call me selfish but I'm just tired of dealing with the drama; insurance, range lease, whiners, litter, set-up/take down, target maintenance... I'd rather go fishing.

Do you guys know what I would do for every NA McKenzie target in my very own yard........and a neighborhood I could shoot at them? That's IMHO the #1 thing that seperates elite level 3D shooters from guys that can win locally/state/regional level.........the ability to look at and shoot targets on a daily basis.

I know a guy here (NC) who has a 20 target range set up on his property (all different animals).

Yeah. He mops up, quite regularly.

His major advantage is........at most of the 3D shoots we shoot in, Binos are not allowed.

    Well here goes nothing!

I can't remember all of it, but here's my short career in a nutshell.

This will be my third year competitively shooting.

My first year was spent mainly shooting 40yd classes in the outdoor venue.

I finished first in our indoor league in the Open Class. Also grabbed Most Valuable Shooter honors. We probably had around 50-60 that completed the league.

Finished first in our outdoor 3D circuit, in my class. Winner was determined on score average. I think my average was in the vacinity of 308 on 30 target courses. I won quite a few of these local shoots on my way to this award.

Finished 3rd at our local clubs championship (we have many pro's and semi pro's that shoot localally here, we probably have one of the toughest "regions" to compete in) I was actually tied for the lead going into the shoot down.

    On the national level

I finished 2nd in the London ASA in Open C. Lost by two points, but hit the most rings out of everyone in the class. That was my first national tournament.

Finished 5th in the Metropolis ASA also in Open C

    Last year (2008)

Last year wasn't as successful for me, but I did move up classes. I had a few kinks with my game that needed ironing out. I think I've gotten past them.

    Locally

I won the indoor 3D league again, in Open class

I won an IBO Qualifier in MBO, along with a few other local shoots

    Nationally

Finished in the money at 3 out of my 5 ASA's

4th place at the Hattiesburg ASA in Open A. Honestly should have finished better than what I did. This is the shoot that stands out to me in my mind. It was a 40 target tournament and I shot "clean" (No 8's, 5's, or 0's) on 33 straight targets, but shot a 5 and an 8 down the stretch (last 5 targets) and it costed me. Just chalk it up to being young and dumb!

    This year

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot as much as I would have liked but I've been shooting quiet a bit as of late (Florida ASA is in less than 2 weeks). I'm shooting and holding the bow better than ever. I'm feeling a good year coming :D

I've shot two tournaments this year so far, both locally.

Shot a 213 on a 20 target course. I won, but it wasn't a tough course. I actually shot 3 5's but 14'd my last four targets to shoot 13 up.

Shot a 308 on a TOUGH 30 target course, shot two fives that I judged poorly. Finished 2nd behind a Pro shooter. (he shot 316)

That's my short career to date! I've been working to improve every facet of my game and I'm definately improving. I'm just trying to make my next year better than my last. I've been very fortunate with the help I have been able to recieve from friends I've made along the way and the Pro's I have made friends with. They have all played a huge role in what I have been able to accomplish. The sky is the limit for me right now, and I have my goals set high for me as an archer.

I'm looking at getting some coaching this summer as well. If finances allow.

My local club had their first shoot yesterday, but I didn't go and I didn't go any last year. When I do go I use my hunting rig with quiver and all attached. I do like shooting 3D to get ready for bowhunting season, good tool getting ready for the woods and determining yardage. Used to go to all of the 3D shoots in the area every weekend, but that was years ago.

Before the IBO triple crown even began one of the biggest shoots in the U.S. was at the Blanford Sportsman club near Clinton, Ind. Named the Midwest Nationals I competed a few times back then, but never bothered to see where I finished........I basically was there for fun and I sucked anyway.........lol. That was back in my fingers shooting days. Shot twice at Bedford during the 1st leg of the Triple Crown a couple times, but haven't been there in years.

Unless you can shoot at critters (hunting season open), this is the most fun you'll have in the woods! Good luck. Also, I'm not sure you'll save money by losing trad. arrows v. compound!

    Matt/TN:

If you guys haven't shot with this young man......you're missing out. I've shot with a lot of compound shooters.......and he's hands-down the best I've seen. I was visiting friends in his area a couple years ago, and went to shoot in one of his indoor tournaments. The course was tough, only because of the size of some of the animals (small). My exposure to big-time shooters has been limited, BUT......I've never been in company that shot for 14's on a regular basis. And, if they didn't, they wouldn't win. Hell....they wouldn't compete! That's heady company, there at Miller's.

Impressive, to say the least, Matt. Keep up the good work.
