Before you get upset you need to find out more info. Any rich person who gives that much of a % of thier income isn't claiming the deductions they can claim.

Those top 1% are earning 19% of all the income in the US (after adjusted gross income) If you think a CEO or even Oprah really deserve to make 400 million$$$$ per year??? The top 100 earners in the US only paid 16.6% of thier income for taxes.

Do you really think that with the paltry 50,000 I make, and pay almost 3 grand in federal tax alone, that someone who makes 400 million should only pay the same 3 grand?

Get real...I'd love to have some of what you are smoking!

    Pompano....

Supporting the flat tax wouldn't mean we all paid the same thing. It would mean we all paid the same %-age. If I misunderstood what you were saying, there, I apologize.

I support the flat tax. It would take awhile for our country to adjust, but once it did we would see things fall into place. "Build it and they will come" will be replaced with, "tear it down and what is left is, efficiency". If you can't hack it in this world with a work ethic and attitude, then you don't deserve crap.

Why on God's green earth do people think they can rob someone of their hard earned money via absurd tax rates for the wealthy? Don't worry guys, I am not a wealthy person, so this really does not pertain to me. What does pertain to me are my principals about what the "real" America is all about. The "real" America needs to re-emerge, where people are self-sufficient in their own lives, plan out their lives according to what they have and not base their lives on what can be "given" to them or who can bail them out.

You cannot believe the absolutely ridiculous statements I hear from even "smart" people at work. I have heard them say that government should sign a law that frees all of us from credit card debt. They said the government should pay off all of our credit card debts. HUH? A person calls a credit card company and asks for money. The company says yes and has that person sign a document agreeing to pay the money. That person then fails to pay of his/her debts and interest builds. Pretty simple. If a person cannot handle paying off a credit card, then don't ask for a credit card "loan". Heck, I have been $20,000 in debt to credit cards when large things have broken down in my homes over the years. I have paid it ALL back. Noone should get out of paying back a loan that they AGREED to when they signed a piece of paper.

Rambling over, but you get my point I hope.

I wasn't talking about that, but I beleive you meant fair tax not flat tax?
What I don't like about th fair tax is those people are misleading others. They tell you it is only a 23% tax. But in reality it is not. They try to tell you there is a tax inclusive and tax exclusive.
Why don't they just be real and tell it like it is? Thats because if people heard them say 30 % they woul;dn't be a part of it. Put that 30% fed tax, and our 7% sales tax and that makes 37%. I beleive California has an 11% tax allready so they would have 41%

BTW, if we were on the fair tax system, the wealthy would still pay more than the poor. Why? because the wealthy are rather large consumers, while the poor are not. Quite a few of the poor go to yard sales and buy clothes, dishes, etc.

Either way taxes suck. What we need to do is to vote out all the encumbents and put new people in who know that they work for us.

Hmmm, they earn 19% and still pay out 40% of the taxes, should we double the tax and make them pay even more? Where are you getting 16.6%? 289 of the top 400 earners in 2007 paid less than 20% mainly due to capital gains taxes. These individuals are smart and know how to make money;) Clearly a flat tax would make people pay an equal share;)

Fair has no measurement as it is an assumption likely based on a majority decision set by crooks in Congress. Flat Taxing is a tangible and fair system as everyone pays an equal percentage, you make more then you also buy more and the sales taxes are reaped as well for state and local government.

On the other hand is it fair for poor people, or senior citizens to get discounts at the theatre or at stores, or wherever?

No it is not fair. Plenty of senior citizens are financially sound, if they are not then they should have planned wiser. I pay into Social Security yet will likely never see a dime.

I have an aunt and uncle that are "poor". My uncle can't hold a job to save his life and usually is on unemployment. My Aunt has Rheumatoid Arthritis and collects long term disability from all our tax contributions. Funny thing is that they also own a laundry mat and full service seamstress and alteration business. Apparently she had serious skills and is a world class seamstress and his vending machine background enable him to collect and count quarters quite well! Did I mention they are poor;)

I lived in my car for a month and a half when I was 19. I had months where I barely ate because I couldn't afford to. I learned to work hard and be smart with my money, not cry to the government and put my hand out. Government Programs over the last 30-40 years have crippled us and raised our tax burden because we feel sorry for the poor people. Time to take that money to teach them the skills they need, not enable them to feel entitled for a handout and continued support via Robin Hood tactics.

It's not the tax rate.... flat, fair, or otherwise. It's the TAX period. Never get into an arguement over how much is fair as its a losing situaltion all the way around (you still have to pay). Instead argue if the Tax is fair to begin with. Until this happens it we are just delaying the inevitable.
