This time of year is my bread and butter. The hotter the better. Also plus side everyone says the same thing, "it's too hot". I usually get a whole month, some times two of hunting before I start seeing any hunter activity. Guys embrace the heat and go for it! Some of the best hunting to be had.

I don't know if I can agree with that "the hotter the better" part, but I'm always out regardless of the temps when season opens. It's the best time to intercept a buck in their summer pattern and I plan on doing that this season. Sure, it can be miserable and if you kill one the race is on to get it on ice, but it would be well worth it.

I wish I had cameras out in Kentucky so I knew exactly where to be instead of getting there and just guessing.

That's why I have a freezer with a temp controller on it. Set to about 35 degrees. I quarter it up and put it in. Then about a week later I butcher it up. Works perfect. Also I never leave a deer over night in early season. I stay out until I find it. Never been able to keep one that had to be left over night.

With the trail camera, I stopped for the most part using them. I kind of like the surprise of what the season brings. Just got to set standards for what you shoot.

It would be a little difficult for me to take a freezer or refrigerator along with me to Kentucky. I depend on coolers and ice.

I won't let a deer lay overnight this early either. That's part of the reason I won't shoot a doe late in the evening during the early season. Well, that and I don't want to make a big ruckus recovering a doe right when the bucks will be moving. I will shoot a doe in the evening if it's early enough for me to get her out of there at least a half hour before sunset.

As for cameras, I like knowing if there is anything in there worth going for, and as for standards, well, you know my standards are low.

Oh, take my comment as bad. I've shot a couple good bucks early but now days, I don't like the heat so I wait untill it's cooler.
I actually get bummed out filling my buck tag early.
I have to miss my favorite 2 weeks of the year.

In MO, if you don't take a buck before gun season starts, are you allowed to take two total for the remainder of the year?

In MO you can kill two bucks. Prior to gun season which starts on Nov 12th, you are only allowed one buck. If you kill one early then you have to wait until after Nov 12th to kill another buck. Question is, if you fail to kill a buck before gun season, can you kill two after gun season begins or are you stuck with just one buck tag? I re read what I originally wrote and it's hard to understand. Hell this post prob is too. Blame the Busch light. :)

Here in Missouri we are allowed two bucks, but they only allow one buck to be killed before gun season opens. If you didn’t kill one before gun season then yes, you can kill two bucks.

You can only kill one buck with a gun, however. If you’re buckless after gun season then you can kill two with your bow.

Don’t hunt with a bow during gun season unless you have a gun tag though.

I think Dave doesn’t understand your question because he’s not in Missouri.

Sadly, you can see them into November. Haven't seen 90's in November but 80's are not completely uncommom here, being a bit south may be more likely there.

Watch the gulf and Atlantic for tropical systems. When they approach the US coast for landfall our general area usually gets hit with ridging that brings the above normal temps with it.

going squirrel hunting in the AM, check some stand locations .. does that count ,,, I no longer get hot and bothered over early deer season, usually the bugs (eye gnats) and heat puts a damper on it in early Oct., unless there is a YUUUUGE cool down .... I'm ready now, clothing is ready, bow is spot on, I cant get any better so it is just maintenance shooting now .. the 40+stand locations ready but squirrels beckon right now and are cutting acorns and hickory ....
