And I have no one to blame but myself.

Ok fellas, I deserve a sack punch. I blew it twice this weekend. Let me start off by saying that I've hunted this stand 12 times in the morning so far this season. I've only seen deer once in the morning and they were 400 yards away on the neighboring property. I see deer almost every time I sit in the evening

Saturday morning I hadn't seen anything by 8 am. I decided to get down at 8:30 (I had things to do for the wife). I ALWAYS stay until I the exact minute say I'm going to get down. Well I get down at 8:25, walk into the woods to look at a rub, walk back by my stand at the edge of the field and bam.......80 yards away is the big 7 with split G2's. He saw me and slipped back into the woods. I felt like someone had spit in my eye. So all day I'm kicking myself for getting down early.

Well Sunday morning I climb in the stand and don't see any action until about 8am. A lone doe comes out into the field, mills around for a few minutes and the eases into the woods and beds down forty yards behind me. I text my buddy to let him know how the hunt was going. He said when I was ready to get down to text him so he could come pick me up from the stand (deer are use to his truck and he thought it may help me to not get busted). I'm in my stand at about 9:15 when my stomach turns. You know when your eyes get real big and you double over because it's got to happen soon. Yea.......thats the last time I eat Mexican food the night before I hunt. So I get a chance to get down without spooking the doe and I'm headed to the road. My buddy's pulling up it the truck. I hop in and we drive down the dirt road to turn around. When we get to the open field to turn around I look down toward my stand and there are two doe and the 6 point 20 yards in front of it. The other shooter we have on camera. Now I feel like someone kicked me square in the boys. So two days in a row I literally get out 5 minutes to early.

Heck Jim it'll happen. Be patient and stay away from the refried beans! Our bucks have disappeared. No one has seen a buck on our place in a week. And we haven't seen any chasing yet.

Hang in there. There is still a lot of season left. I've been there done that in a similar fashion.

I have a lot of stands. Some are not more than 100 yards apart. I hunt fairly open country so lots of times I can see the surroundings of the other stand within proximity to my current location. There have been many instances to where I have witnessed first hand being in the wrong stand.

On a side note, our rut is just beginning which is right on schedule with years past.

It's just getting shooting light here around 0620, I would try to stick it out a little longer if your schedule permits. The stomach thing, well there's not a lot you can do about that other than a roll of tp in your pack.
