Third weekend in and I finally got a shot at a deer. With the exception of the doe I passed on because of the spotted fawns she had in tow, this is the first deer I've seen during shooting light. She walked out of the woods at 6:30 along with four others to feed on white oak acorns from a huge white oak right on the edge of a clover plot. I never got a chance to stand up and I knew if I tried I was going to get busted, so I had to pull a first. This is the first deer I've ever shot sitting down. I actually drew on her 1 1/2 times. I made it half-way through a draw and she turned my way. Instead of continuing to draw I let down. She finally turned her head at 25 yards and I managed to draw with three of the other deer out in front of me and one right under me. We had a rough time finding her despite the shot placement. For some reason I didn't get a good blood trail at all. We finally found her 80 yards down the steep hill piled up in a deep wash-out. We had walked right past her twice and ended up not finding her until almost 9:00. Anyway, I'm thankful for this one. I was beginning to think I was cursed. The pressure is off now.
Congrats on the Doe. Nice shot too, must have 2x lunged it. Did you get the heart? Im guessing no if the blood trail/flow was light.
Thanks, guys. One other thing... you should've seen the air this old girl got when that arrow hit. I'd bet she got a good 5 - 6 feet off the ground. No, I didn't hit the heart. The arrow passed right above it. The lack of a blood trail actually has me concerned a bit. This is the first time the Slick Tricks haven't provided a good one.
