You know I am a firm believer in keeping it fun. I try to stay out of useless peeing matches but when someone mentions Chevy/Dodge in the same sentence with Ford... that's when the gloves come off !!!!!!! How dare you !!!!!! :P :)

Seriously... I've pretty much given up on HNI. With Dial-up it is just too much torture waiting for something to load that only has a 40% chance of loading without having to use the refresh button once or twice. I really enjoyed the site and the hunting contest. Used to check the site every day... then once every week.... now once every two weeks and only because of the hunting contest. Really is sad the direction it took.

There are still few good guys over there that need to be brought over here though.

Boys........I was hoping to keep this post about what we wanted this site to become....or continue to be. Its this type of junk that I, nor anyone else wants to hear about and those posts breed the negativity I was talking about earlier.

Everyone knows your history and frankly, no one really cares......except you two.

Sorry to say, I'm keeping this thread open, but deleting those posts......I wish it wouldn't have come to this as this is not how I want to moderate.

We all may have complain about other sites, I myself look to sites where you can have a discussion and may not agree with others but a day later you're laughing about it. It seems that some sites have certain folks tat look to pick fights. That is what I've seen as the down fall of some sites.

I was never a member at that site, but I'm very happy with this site. I love the fact that we can have arguments and discussions, except for a few threads here and there, that stay civilized and actually have intelligent input rather than having people ramble on like a bunch of idiots. I hope things stay on the same track that they are now, because a large majority of the people on this site are great and knowledgeable people that I've learned a lot from, as well as developed a friendship with. /endsappiness

Oh what, so you're supposed to just ignore it when a site doesn't function correctly for weeks/months on end with nothing being done about it? I was "complaining" about it because my "drawing the line" thread (because of the lack of a fix) was deleted and that's what put it over the line! I was simply mentioning it here in what looked like the ONLY PROPER forum, unless there's another that I'm not aware of?

I'm certainly not trying to bring negatvity to this site. I understand that folks don't want this site to turn into what that other one turned into. And I'm NOT trying to do that with this thread! I was simply stating some facts about what finally brought me back here (I registered in '08) for good. I have no idea why anything was deleted from this thread because I wasn't aware of that until now. All I was doing was talking about something that I didn't think belonged on the other forums. What IS the "Water Cooler" forum used for?

I've seen it time and again, people get things going no matter how simple the thread was from the start. And mine was real simple. Simply stating my feelings about something. People don't have to agree, but they also don't have to make a big deal out of it, and turn it into something it's not! I hope I've explained myself properly.

    Jeff:

There's one thing for sure. You can't discuss it where it NEEDS to be discussed. Your ability to post at all would be jeopardized by the mere mention.....or your concerns would be squelched....and/or censored (I think history proves this to be true).

He's not in the least right.

IB (Internet Brands) has many managers. Some I know, some I don't now and they are all in the forums. IE, I don't know what happened to your thread there. What forum was it in? I do know they are discussing it in the OFFSEASON forum as I also posted that I have to log in every time I visit the site. I'm frustrated with it as well and there has been emails into the site managers about it. Right now, it is what it is. I go there knowing I have to log in.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox and having the issue. Some aren't having any issue. Don't know what to tell you but coming to another site to complain about it ain't getting it fixed no more than complaining about it there. They are aware of it and how they handle it is out of my hands.

I'm not sure what isn't "right" about my assertion, Rob. It's actually fact.

The post in the OFF SEASON forum is 3 pages long. I even participated in it. I suppose there are right forums and wrong forums. Imagine that.

But of course your right. Kudos.

Jeff's post is in the off-season (or on the site, period)?

If so, I need to recant. If not, I'd say I was spot-on.

This is just ONE example. I've seen more posts disappear; more posts deleted....and more opinions sqelched and/or censored on that site than on any other I've ever been on.

It's nothing to take personally.....unless you're the cause. If you are, then maybe listening to why so many members are leaving would be a prudent exercise. If you're not, then a simple acknowledgement (unless you feel the concerns are all in the minds of the forum members) would suffice.

I'm not trying to be "right". I'm trying to make the powers that be over there recognize they have real issues that need to be addressed. If they didn't, we wouldn't see the mass exodus we all know is real.

No Jeff, it (my thread) was deleted. Not moved, which would have been the proper procedure. It really wasn't out of hand (perhaps wrong forum) by any means. I just stated some examples of the problems that exist. Nothing more.

It's funny Jeff, I used those same exact words (mass exodus) in my thread. Maybe that's it!:D

Its seems like most good forums eventually head downhill as the membership grows. This site is great and I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Honestly, I think a lot of the down turn in the hunting community as a whole is due to a drastic over commercialization of the sport. How long ago was it that no one described bucks in inches? Now everyone does whether they know what the hell they are talking about or not. How long ago were hunting shows the exception rather than the rule? Now there are numerous channels that show nothing but hunting shows. Kids who are just learning to hunt are taking cameras with them with the intention of becoming famous. Hunting, as in becoming a predator, has been lost by an entire generation. It isn't about nature, the animal of prey, or even the enjoyment of getting away from the hussle of every day life anymore. It is all about "what can I get out of this?". People hunt deer and elk in cages because they are so driven by the thought of killing a big animal and being accepted as a "successful" hunter. Every guy and his brother lather up in scent blocking crap that wasn't even around 15 years ago. Not because it makes hunting more enjoyable, but because they have been convinced that it will help them be more "successful". Hunting and hunters have lost more than they have gained in the past decade. Too many people get on forums like this one and pass judgement based on what they have seen and come to believe is fact from television. TELEVISION! Meanwhile, most of the people on those shows haven't been hunting enough seasons to really know what they are even talking about. The respect that used to be associated with experience is now based on notariety. Problem is most people don't realize that those shows are nothing more than infomercials for the outfitters, bow manufacturers, broadheads, you name it. The real problem with that is the new comers aren't wise enough in the ways of this great sport to know the difference, and so it is them who are the real prey of the hunting industry anymore. It is truly sad where we have come and where we are continually gaining speed towards. However, instead of ever trying to make it better, we as a community bicker over what bow brand is coolest, how ethical/unethical mechanical heads are, how terrible gun hunters are, you name it. Mostly, these bickerings are based on explaining why someone else "did better than us" or why our way is harder or better. Heck, we are so bad that a respected guy on this site came here and apologized for missing three deer this year stating that he "let you all down". How terrible is it that he felt that his fellow hunters would be disappointed in him for doing his best and failing, so much so he felt like he owed us an apology? What does that tell us about us?

Ok, end of rant. Bowhunting.com rules and HNI drools.. or something like that :)
