I don't have any kids but have 7 Nieces and Nephews. NONE of them play video games. Thier parents have them into other things. I haven't played a video game since my freshman yr of college.

There were plenty of kids laying around on couches doing nothing, but we called it being lazy, not gaming.

There is nothing inherently wrong with video games or TV. They have their place. Whether you are a child or a grownup, you can't be outside all the time.

But there is something that I have noticed when we go to the range, or while we park by our hunting areas, or when we fish. We hardly ever see fathers (or mothers) with their kids doing these things. We often see men at the range practicing or sighting in. Sometimes a couple of guys will be together. But we almost never see a guy with his sons or daughters. Why is that?

Children want to be like their parents. Our daughters want to be like their mama. They want to dress like I do. They want to do the things I do, whether it's cooking, vacuuming, shopping for groceries, shooting, fishing, hunting, or laying out in the sun.

My husband has to get a couple of stuck screws out. So he took the girls tool shopping. They learned about easy-outs and some other neat things about tools. They are always learning by watching us do things or helping us.

We almost never go anywhere or do anything that we don't take them along or get them involved. Our daughters see me doing all these things and they want to be like me. They see how my husband and I interact and they learn how to be wives and mothers. I can't have any more children. But if they were boys or if I had a boy, he would want to be like his father, because his father would always be close by showing him what men do just like our daughters learn from him about what men do.

I may be very wrong, but I think childhood is just a time to learn to be an adult. And being an adult is great fun really. I got married pretty young by most people's standards. Sometimes someone will ask me if I didn't miss being young. I have to ask them if maybe they're a little crazy. I am supposed to miss hanging out at the mall with a bunch of other girls taking about boys and stuff like Justin Bieber? Instead I had my own home and got to do all the things my mother could do. I got to have babies and care for them and nurse them and I also got to hunt and fish and shoot guns. Lots more fun than hanging out at the mall.

I grew up playing outside and enjoying the outdoors. I still spend a lot of time outside, but during the off season this is what I do to help with my cravings of not being able to hunt when I have time... I play theHunter , It's not the real thing but it's as close as anything I've found. This isn't the normal junk that Cabela's puts out there with the cheesy arcade crap that doesn't reflect on RL hunting what so ever. It's also a beautiful game if you have the computer to run it on high graphics. I'm from the country and enjoy the outdoors but even us rednecks like to play games once in awhile :).

My son is off to school now so nobody to play catch with anymore, I may have to get a video gaming system.
