Well as much time as I spend in the woods it was only a matter of time before I got Lyme Disease. I have been bit 6 times so far this year alone. Lucky so far no sickness, aches or pains. I got a prescription this AM and was told no dairy products 2 hours before or after taking a pill (twice a day) For a fat guy that loves milk and ice cream this may be a challenge This picture is a perfect example of a Lyme Disease tick bite mark
Northern part of Wi seems to be real bad with ticks compared to where I live down here in south eastern, Wi. Good thing you are educated and catching this early. My brother n law has been fighting health issues because he didnt catch this disease early. Here .is a website I would like to share for info on Deer Ticks and prevention help. T www.deerticks.com
I feel for ya Pat. I was wondering how that bulls eye ring looks like from a bite with lyme desease. I can see the large ring around it. I have been lucky, I have had hundreds of bites and no lyme yet! good luck bud!
Watch for symptoms!! My dad has lymes disease and has not been the same since he got infected. Its nothing to mess around with. Good luck.
Stay consistent with those meds! I got it in 2005 after having 2 larger (wood ticks?) and 1 tiny tick attach themselves. After 2 weeks passed with no bullseye rash I became feverish during the day, chills at night, no energy and every joint ached. After about a week of trying to be a macho-man my wife took me to the immediate care (after a day where I was involved in 2 car accidents in :30) where they took a blood titer and diagnosed me with Lyme. I got started on the antibiotic meds that night and started feeling better within days. Here is a quote from the CDC regarding Lyme disease rashes: "While the Lyme disease bull's eye rash is characteristic, it only appears in about 30% of the bites. Some bites will not develop the rash at all, so you should be aware of other early symptoms of Lyme disease that may appear within a few days to a month. Some people may develop these symptoms and not relate them to an earlier tick bite." So everyone be careful!!
So, how did it turn out for you? Did the antibiotics knip it in the bud and you now have no consequences? This is something that we all need to learn from.
Luckily, as the doctor told me, I found medical help relatively early. People that try to fight the symptoms thinking it is just the flu, cold or mono are the ones that really struggle in the end. At times I feel like I am achy again, but it is probably due to numerous factors like an active job where I am on my feet all day, kids that kick my @ss as soon as I walk thru the door after a 10-12 hour work day and years of playing sports. I really do not think that I have any side effects from Lyme Disease. I have a co-worker who does have side effects still today of headaches, pain and decreased function of her liver (I think it is her liver...could be wrong). She got it on a camping trip, but was diagnosed in Chicago (dang FIBs....oh wait I am one of those right now) as mono and treated as such, but did not get better for months so she seeked out another opinion. It was there that they tested her blood and found out that she has Lyme Disease. By the time she went thru the medication routine permanent damage had already been done.
How so? Physical, mental or both? I'm curious about what the affects are and if people react differently or not. Sorry to hear about your dad.
