I feel so bad for Charlie Weis, Lou Holtz and Notre Dame...:D:D:D:D:D Nothing makes me happier than watching them loose. Looks like all the Belichek assistants are not quite as good as the boss. Roll Tide
I like them "loose" too. When they are "loose" they really move the ball. Just curious, where does Lou come into play here. Charlie's an ass, that's been proven and because of his inability to change and adapt, he will be shown the door. I know there are people who are anti Irish just as I am anti Florida State/Miami, but what did Lou do? Last I checked he was last coach to make it work.
+1 Lou Holtz, when seen on ESPN, consistently picks ND to win and, at the beginning of the year, often picks them as a big time BCS title contender. But, most of the time it is obvious that he is how he is just to annoy Mark May AND be "that analyst" who makes outrageous claims. He definitely does a good job at that for sure
Ben, as a coach I respect his record and championships. As an analyst he is a pain in the neck, he actually called Notre Dame the dominant team in a loss 2 or 3 weeks ago. I simply cannot stand to hear him talk anymore. I only loath ND because one of my best friends LOVES them to the point he has a few tattos representing them. As for my spelling we know it should have been lose, but hey I am a tide fan and we do not spell, read or write so well...LOL On a side note I am in 100% agreement that Charlie's ego is what is showing him the door.
Along the same lines of ex ND coaches/current analyst, Bob Davie is far worse.....he takes any chance he gets to take shots at ND.
Lou is the dumbest commentator on tv!! First you cant understand him and second he makes the dumbest picks!! He has no idea what he's talking about half the time Dont get me wrong, he was a great coach but come on!!
Now that you mention it, he does this everytime he talks. I guess I always realized it, but never let it rub me the way Lou does. He sucks (Davie) and I hate hearing him talk more so than Lou. Thanks for point that out Ben, I do like being unbiased in my opinions about these things...well except when the tide are involved.
Belichek has MADE a lot of coaches look better than they are... I will go out on a limb and arguably say he is probably a top 3 coach of all time and when he is done... Probably the best. We will see how Denver does with the ex-patriot at the helm...???!!!???
What modern day recruit wants to go to a Catholic school in the middle of cold country USA? The modern recruit wants babes in bikinis, booster club pay offs, and want access to the beach and money= Florida schools, Texas schools, and California schools fit the bill. Notre Dame has NO chance at consistenly landing top 20 recruiting classes. It makes no difference who the coach is at that college.
I bleed blue and gold. I love ND and have since I was little. But man, they've been bad for a really long time. This coaching carousel is embarrassing. I was at the UConn game this past week and boy there are a lot of PO'd catholics there. LOL. There are a number of reason's they're this bad, coaching being one of them. Recruiting however, is not. They're consistantly in the top 10 in recruiting classes every season. One thing Weiss does well is recruit. Something many don't realize is that one of the biggest reason Lou Holtz left was because of the changes in admissions standards. ND is tough, very tough to get into and they made it a whole lot harder when they stopped accepting JUCO transfers. Many teams pluck JUCO's to play football. Those teams usually find very talented athletes, that once their grades were finally up to par, could come in and play football. ND took that luxery away. ND's biggest issue this year was defense. It leaked like siv. No one can tell me that ND doesn't have the athletes, they always do. IMO, it was scheme that sucked. Their D coordinator needs to hit the road. I personally want to see Weiss stay...as the offensive coordinator. He can coach and recruit offense, thats obvious. I just hope that whatever ND does, they take their time and get the right guy this time. No more NFL guys. A proven, winning, college coach is what they need. The top 3 names right now are Meyer from Florida, Stoops from Oklahoma and Kelly from Cincinatti. We'll see.... As for the Lou is a dumbass remarks..... He and Mark May actually do this on purpose to stir people up. I hated Mark May with a passion until I saw some "inside the lines" type thing on him one night. He went on to say how he and Lou basically "stage" most of the stuff you see. Ratings baby...ratings.
any chance Urban Meyer would even consider going to ND when he's quickly creating the USC of the east in Florida?
ND does NOT get top recruiting classes, I don't care what anyone says. Even with a below average scheme, big time athletes will shine through and pull a team to a 7-4 record or better each year. ND does not have those game breaking players it used to have each year. Not even close.
wahoohunter, I don't think they'll get him either. Its simply rumor and heresay right now. Meyer used to be an assistant coach at ND before he went to Utah. He stated that ND was his dream job. Of course that was before knocking down two NC's at Florida. I think ND's best shot is with Brian Kelly of Cincy. I like his track record, but ND is a different animal all together. Virginiashadow, I respectfully disagree bud. Just go to any college football recruiting site and take a look. ND is almost always in the top 10. To me, this clearly shows a breakdown from recruiting to developing. The thing I have noticed this season especially with that team is that they'll just out front by two scores early, but won't step on the oppositions throat. With the defense playing as poorly as they do, they needed to get out front big. They just never did that.
I saw this morning on SC in a press confrence that he said: "I will be at FL as long as they keep me" So i dont think there is a chance for that.
Actually they do. Notre Dame has the tradition and pagaentry (sp?) to pick and pull the top athletes from wherever they want. As of today Notre Dame is 11th in the 2010 class. And the past years include: 2009- 21st 2008- 2nd 2007- 8th 2006- 8th But you are right, that level of rectuits should translate to more wins. I read somewhere or heard a coach, might have been Urban Meyer, say that superior talent should equal atleast 8 wins.
"But you are right, that level of rectuits should translate to more wins. I read somewhere or heard a coach, might have been Urban Meyer, say that superior talent should equal atleast 8 wins. " That is what I am saying...getting "top recruits" based on recruiting services and stars/stripes, or whatever else they use to judge hs recruits does NOT equal a good recruiting class. ND does not have the pick of the litter when it comes to recruits. They don't snap their fingers and make top recruits drool into their laps like they used to 10-20-30 years ago. Like I said before, getting 3 star recruits, and some top 50 position rectruits every year is not that big of a deal when you stack ND against the perennial powers such as USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama...and more.
That is what is sickening to me, as an ND fan. The recruits are there, the talent, for the most part is there. Heck, look at the offense they're toting around this season. Two of the top receivers in the nation, one of the top TE's, probably the best QB in the nation and more than ample running backs. The defensive side of the ball, well, it needs work, but I still can't figure out why they're as bad as they are on that side of the ball. Well, I can to some degree. The defensive schemes they're running, requires a lot of pressure. This pressure is continuously putting guys out of position. Typically, good run defense means staying at home and playing your gaps. ND is blitzing almost every down from somewhere and out of position on running plays. Then of course, when the other team is passing, those same blitzes don't get there and leaves the secondary hung out to dry. I believe a coaching change, I mean wholesale coaching change is neccesary. Clean out the cupboards and start fresh. The problem is, ND's fanbase and alums don't want to hear that if they do this, its not going to fix itself overnight. It sucks for us ND fans. To go from being competitive each year, occasionally in the NC talk and BCS talk, to being an embarrassment because the school, AD and Alumns still believe they're above all other schools. Ok, i'm done with my rant.
Seriously...the last time I thought of ND as a National Championship contender...Lou Holtz was their coach. One of the reasons that many people (like me) hate ND football is that they often get put into bowl games that they don't even deserve to be in...but I guess it is fun watching them get the butts kicked by more deserving teams. Their victory at the Hawaii Bowl (LOL) last year was their first bowl win since 1994!
Cooter, I agree with you to an extent about the bowl games. However, if the BCS wouldn't have a ND rule in place, how would they ever get in to any of those games? I personally don't want to see them in a conference. I like them playing teams from all over the country, especially their rivalry games with USC, Michigan, occasionally PSU, etc.
