Well I'm happy to report that season opened in one of my counties yesterday, gun season but deer season none the less. So after work I pick up the my 8 year old and we head to a close spot we have. It's a litle late(about 4:15) but not too bad, I've snuck out there the last 45 minutes of light and killed deer so I wasn't too worried. We have two big blocks of woods that seperate a cut corn field and a bean field with an overgrown powerline that cuts right through the blocks of woods and into one of the fields. Well as we make our ever so stealthy approach to our natural ground blind near the powerline I jump across a small ditch and as soon as my feet hit the ground I catch movement, a big doe comes out of the middle of the powerline 30+yards away and trots back across the edge into the woods, didn't even have an arrow nocked. She didn't blow or seem too alarmed but the rest of our sit was uneventful. So it took less than 10 minutes into my first hunt to see my first white flag going away from me, Awesome!! I'm home today with my daughter who has a stomach bug so during her naps I will have some time to get everything ready for the bow opener tomorrow where I will hopefully be more ninja like.
