Just wanted to pass on a little information/story, so that it doesn't happen to you: Last spring I got married in Jamaica, and let me tell you, it was amazing. Upon returning home, my wife suprised me with a new Matthews Z7 (with the help of my brother who is an avid bow hunter)...first bow since I was 18. She had heard me talking about how I would like to get back into bow hunting. To sweeten the pot, she told me I could take a chunk of the $$ we had received from our reception back in the states and outfit myself for this years season, providing I felt I was accurate enough. Jumping forward to yesterday, it was my 3rd day to get time in the woods and I was pumped. Went out an hour before sun up with my Z7 and my Summit Dagger...saw no movements at all, a couple red squirrels, a hawk, and a pheasant that scared the hell out of me on my .25 mile walk in. I decided to take a lunch break because in my haste to get to the woods yesterday morning, I had forgotten my sandwiches on the kitchen table. I drove into town to a little diner I had passed on my previous trips to the marsh. Had a big lunch, was maybe in the place for 45 minutes tops...upon my return to the car, something didn't look right. Somebody broke the rear passenger window, unlocked the car, popped the trunk and made off with my Z7, Dagger stand, and my hip belt that had miscilanious little things in it. Needless to say my archery season is over, and I have yet to tell my wife that someone has stolen the wedding present she gave me. Hopefully my story will help you guys in some way...you can bet I'm not stopping in that town for food/gas/anything anymore. Thanks for reading! Trailchef
Sorry to hear this. Have your wife call the shop it was bought from so they can call Mathews with the serial number and report it stolen. If it ever needs warranty work in the future and gets called in, it may surface.
Thanks for the tip, I wouldn't have thought of this...I will definately do this. A good friend of mine is a county sheriff, he also told me to watch Craigslist.
Had this Happen this year also but my dumba&& left the truck unlocked, at my apt. It is a sick Feeling, If you have Homeowner's or renters insurance they may cover the Bow and Stand. That is how I got mine replaced.
Where you located? I am on the IL/WI border just south of Lake Geneva. I will keep an eye out until Sat (going on a week long trip). I have to stop by an archery shop tomorrow in Woodstock, IL. If you can give me a description of the bow other than just Z7 (color, string color, arrow rest, sight) I will pass it to him in case anyone tries to trade it in. The owner is often on here so I will tell him your user name to contact you. Mike
Meathunter - Homeowners won't cover it because it was not in the driveway, just got off the phone with them. rizzo999 - as for the description, it was 60#, 30" draw, lost camo w/walnut grip and all black damps/supress/string stop, etc. Had a whisker biscuit rest, Trophy Ridge Fire Wire 3 pin sight and a T-series quiver. I see you're from Hebron, I grew up in Harvard...been all over, but have been in West Allis for the last 4 years.
Man, that sucks! I wonder how they knew there was stuff in your trunk to take? And they must have some balls doing that in broad daylight.
Being from SE Wisconsin, I can't say this makes me feel good about leaving anything of worth in my vehicle (especially my bowhunting gear). Since I am from the area, I will be on the lookout for newly posted Z7's on craiglist, etc.....
They grabbed stuff from the whole car, the stuff in the trunk was the only hunting related items...they did, however, leave my rubber boots.
I really liked the start of your story. That is too bad. You might want to look at different insurance unless it was a case of your homeowners insurance had a deductible above the lost items. I work in insurance and most companies are going to cover this loss unless it is b/c of deductible. PM me with any questions. Sorry to hear this.
This^ I work in insurance also and the theft should be covered under your HO regardless of where it occurred. I would call back and speak to someone else, Unfortunately you don't always get the most knowledgeable person.
Well, I broke the news to the wife...she was sympathetic, but I felt awful telling her what happened to the perfect wedding gift she gave me. She called our insurance agent and spoke to the actual agent (apparently I did not speak to the right person)...the good news is that it is indeed covered, but the bad news is we have $1500 deductable...so there might be some help there. In the mean time, I have several people watching Craigslist and Ebay. I'm going to hit two local shops on my way home from work tonight and see if they can keep an eye out. A big thank you to those watching Craigslist and the like, it means a lot!
Something I just thought to add that might help others in the future. If you want to schedule personal property on your homeowners policy it might not be a bad idea to do. People do it with jewelry mostly. I've done it for bicycles, computers, guns, etc. I haven't really thought of doing it for bows. Mainly because I'm new to bowhunting and just realizing the cost that goes into this. If you had something scheduled it can have a zero deductible. It might cost you $20-$30/year to insure a $1200 bow setup. This would cover lost/stolen. If you rent you might want to just look at lowering your deductible to $250 which is cheap assuming you don't have a lot of personal property. Hope this helps someone in the future. Again, sorry Trailchef that some idiot ruined that great gift. Hopefully it can be found. I will try to check craigslist to see if anything pops up in my area too.
That really sucks man! Sorry to hear that, he probably didn't steal your boots cause they wouldn't fit his feet. Sometimes I really dislike people.
Thanks for the info. That sucks that you have had this happen. I also keep my stuff in my trunk of my car when I plan on hunting. Today I even have my climber in my backseat.....going change that.
