... the Deer Had my first all day sit of the season. Frosty 20 degree morning and I was in the canoe at 6:03. In the stand at 6:40 and ready to go. Over the course of the day I saw: Chickadees, a robin, mice, red squirrel, a loon, mergansers, golden eyes, muskrat, mink, otters, beavers, Woodpeckers (downy, hairy, pileated), blue & grey jays, grouse, eagles, crows, fox sparrows and a fisherman... but not a single deer. It was a great sit, and my new stand is much more roomy for those all-dayers. I'm overlooking a beaverdam crossing, but with all the rain this week, the pond swelled to its max and made the crossing harder. They also cross 25yds down stream in the marshy area, but not this day. My days are numbered for this spot as the temps are dropping. The ponds were froze in the AM and never completely opened. another week or so an the lake could start to skim over, rendering the canoe useless and close my access there until there's safe ice. This coming week is when The Beast showed himself last year... I guy can hope
And a beast he Is bud!! I think next week around Wednesday or so I may try an all dayer. You speak of a roomy new stand, what ya got?
Good luck in the coming days !! I could have used your canoe this morning. All's I got was very wet feet trying to access a spot. Had to give up as it was getting deep fast. The little ice we have sure made for chilly feet once I got knee deep and flooded my boots. Tim
