    Hey everyone,

Im new to the site and decently new to hunting. Anyways I bought a Bear Lights out from Cabelas about 3 yrs ago, they set the bow up and I have been learning about bows ever since. Well I have had this issue ever since i bought it, and just recently decided to ask the guys at cabelas and they had no clues.

I have a 5 pin sight and I can not use my forth and fifth pin cause i can not adjust the pins any lower. My sight is also adjusted as low as possible. I will get some pics here in a bit, But im just not sure where to start to get to use my 4th and 5th pin

    Thanks
    TJ

Without being able to hold the bow I have three general possible scenarios.

    1. Strig loop may be set too high, has your bow been paper tuned?

    2. Possible that rest is not tuned properly for elevation. Your arrow should pass across the berger hole( hole your rest screws into on riser)

    3. Peep sight may not be properly adjusted. When you draw back your bow you should be able to close your eyes, anchor, then open your eyes and not have to adjust to see through the peep.

These are just general observations and common problems I saw in the shop. This is where I would start, good luck and keep us posted!

1.It has not been paper tuned yet. I have been wanting to get it paper tuned.

2.I just got that rest installed, and i had the same issue with the whisker bisquit. Anyway I can check to make sure the rest is ok?

3.Today when i go to the range ill have to check the peep.

    Thanks

    1. Your sight is set too high, you want to have your 20 yard pin near the top of the sight and go down from there. Your 20 yard pin is where your 30 yard pin should be.
    2. You can flip the sight brace upside down which may give you more room to adjust your pins up.
    3. Peep sight too low, but as mentioned draw your bow back to anchor with your eyes shut, open them and look straight and that is where your peep should be.

At what distances are you trying to set your pins? I have a 5 pin sight set at 20, 30, 40, 50 & 60. No problem setting the bottom 2 pins and my 20 yard pin is near the middle of my pin guard.

First, make sure your arrow is level on the rest... it should pass squarely through the Berger button holes on the riser (the two holes that you've got your rest screwed into).

Then, come to full draw, close your eyes, and hit your anchor -- with your eyes closed. When you open your eyes, check out where your peep is... you may need to move it accordingly. This act will help you fit the bow to YOU; not vice-versa.

Those are the first two things I'd do if I were in your shoes....

I have a lights out which is 300fps IBO rated, 27inch draw at 70 pounds. I need to have the 20 yard pin near the top in order to set my 30,40,50 and 60. Likewise, I own an 08DS HF which is 340fps IBO rated and i can set my 20 yard pin near or below the middle of my sight if I choose. The gaps between pins differs on bows in accordance with the speed of the bow. I don't think you can set your 20 yard pin on a lights out in the middlle and follow suit with 30,40,50 and 60.

What? Each bow sets up differently? I'm shocked!! Good luck with your issue, hope you figure it out.

You can't set the sights on a bow until it is tuned. Put the horse back in front of the cart and get the bow tuned, then worry about sighting it in. Being that it's 3 years old and has never been tuned I'm betting that it's way out of whack. Get everything back into factory spec. on it first. Then get the nock point and peep located correctly. Then start doing some tuning of the arrow and/or rest to get things shooting straight out of the bow (bare shaft, paper or whatever method your like). Then set the sights. There's good advise above about setting the peep and nock height.
