Is this the year a 200+ grossing buck will fall to a BH.com member?

The closer you live to the pockets of Red, the better your chance. For those of us who live in an area where a 200 inch buck has NEVER been killed...well good luck with that prospect.

ugghhh...??? can someone explain to me why Long Island is as bright red as half of Illinois?? is there something going on there that I dont know of? and I'm in vermont, there will be ZERO chance of a 200incher just hoping for a decent 2.5+ year old. I am hunting a week in Missouri though, again prob wont be in the same county as a 200!

I live in the epicenter of the red zone....and there is no chance in hell I'm killing one this year.

I was thinking the same thing. My girlfriend lives in LI and I actually have access to land there (but I'm not there enough to scout and hunt and so forth). I looked it up and apparently in 2009 a guy shot a big non-typical with 4 beams that scored over 200". I think this map just shows where 200"+ deer have been shot, not the "actual" likelihood of shooting a 200+ buck. On a side note, there are many vinyards and huge farms out on the north fork of LI and I bet there are MASSIVE deer out there. It looks like prime deer country with huge food sources and plenty of cover and low, low pressure. Its very rural out that way and from what I gather, very few people hunt.

No Peak mine only scored 191 and change and was in Huntingnets bowhunting contest I think back in like 2006.
That same year I believe Joey Rott KSHunter killed one that scored higher than mine I think they incorrectly scored it the 1st time leaving it with a lesser score for the contest. I believe it scored better the second time it was scored correctly.
Same happened with mine had an unoffical scorer score it the 1st time and when I had an offical P&Y scorer score it the second time it gained and inch in score.

I knew my "new" Eastern WA, about 1000 acres of ground was good but I didn't expect it to be red! Nice...

Well... I know that I don't know the whole story behind what everyone's doing, and it's not exactly smart business to broadcast the fact that you're dialed-in on a 200" buck. So, there's probably more going on with a few of our posters than they're saying. With that said, I'm not aware of anyone on here who is targeting a buck in that range. But even if I did know of somebody with that kind of iron in the fire, I still wouldn't say. LOL

Furthermore, at any given moment, any one of us could just throw down $20K at a high-fence ranch and buy a 200" buck.

As far as fair chase hunting goes, I know there are a few members on this site who have access to land with 200"+ potential.

I'll admit, it's entirely possible, even likely that a few of our guys who log a lot of stand time in big buck zip codes could luck into a previously-unknown giant at any time. Those odds begin to increase exponentially once breeding activity begins and hunting pressure spikes, causing a recirculation of local bucks.

Based on the odds alone, if the bar was set at 200", I'd take the under.

I KNOW that I'm not on a buck that big. I'm not even near one.
