W/exact same foot placement in both pics and only a minute apart. What would you say the odds are that they are different deer? Yes, the head down's rack looks different from when his head is up, but sometimes profiles make it difficult to discern what the rack actually looks like. Either way, imagine what he'll look like next year.
I set my cameras to only have 30 second delay and over the years I have gotten several pictures that were of the same buck but the rack looked very different at varying angles. There is no question in my mind that it is the same deer.
Well, I still think that it is 2 different bucks. I believe that the first buck is this guy (see below) and if it is, you'd certainly be able to see those stickers in the second pic.
If it were my pics, I'd want to believe it were two different bucks also. But, they're not. Good luck this fall bro.
If it were your pics.... Why would you want to believe that?? What difference does it make who's pic's they are? I'm only going by what I see. The first buck has sticker points, the other does not. I have quite a few pics of the first buck and a few of the second one. The whole reason I posted this was because I thought it was odd that their feet were in the exact same place. BTW, a lot can happen in 60 seconds. Good luck to you this fall also bro.
Is this the same deer? Considering the Title of your thread.... I was almost sure you were asking for our opinion... ? Maybe your title should have said, "Different bucks, same place, same time, same rack, isn't this amazing?" Good Luck to you this season also Greg, on the bigger one of course.
Because I would want to believe I had pics of 2 different bucks. Afterall, 2 is better than 1. The difference it makes is when you look at someone elses pics rather then your own, you tend to be less biased and see it for what it is, rather than what you want to see. And so am I....and everyone else. The thread title asked "Is this the same deer?" Not real odd, since all the deer did was pick its head up after taking a drink. Again, I guess you didn't need to ask if it was the same deer, since you already knew it was two different ones. :D Good luck!
Look at the right rear leg, the muscle definition, the color, etc... all the exact same in both pictures. If it were indeed a different buck there would be subtle differences in the muscle definition, shape, coat color and texture from deer to deer as there is no way two deer will be the same. Then look at the hoof placement, not just one but ALL of the hoofs are in the exact same spot. The odds of that happening by two different deer at any time is slim to none, add in the fact that it's 60 seconds apart and it's almost infinitesimal. That's the same deer.
60 seconds are not almost infinitesimal. I proved this to myself when I set up a few cameras to take video after first snapping a picture. You'd be surprised at what you can miss in those 60 seconds while the camera is waiting to recharge for a second pic (Cuddebacks, the ones I have, can only take a pic every 60 seconds at the fastest).
Greg, I know 60 seconds isn't infinitesimal...it's 60 seconds. What I meant is the odds of a deer, the same size, shape, color, etc... stepping into the EXACT same position as another deer in 60 seconds is infinitesimal. That's the same deer, he just moved his head. Everything else about him is the same. Take a close look at all of the details from the muscle definition, tarsal gland shape and size, coat color and texture overall size and shape...it's the same deer!
John, take a close look at their head gear, there's a difference in point count. It can't be the same deer.
The lighting, head position and head angle are playing tricks on the photo(s).The headgear is probably the worst when it comes to detail and that's probably where you think you see two different deer, it's just too fuzzy to be sure about the antlers. The rest of the deer however is very much in focus and that's where it's very clear this is the same deer in both pictures.
Hey Greg, just so you don't think you're going crazy, I can see where you might think the antlers are different because they look different to me too. However given all that I have outlined, I am 99.99999% certain (I never say "never" LOL!) it's the same deer.
