So, I read the thread on the Michigan Sportsman site. If this deer was poached (and it's looking plausible) what a terrible story. I mean, it's not just that some guy was willing to poach a deer to show off some antlers... but it sounds as if this deer is an icon in that park. It gives hunters a huge black eye. They won't see the distinction of hunter vs. poacher.
Well there is zero doubt that it is a same buck. What a shame and I am sure authorities will sort it all out!
I don't know the details, I don't know if the buck wandered out of the zone. I bet the guy did not know there are 100+ pictures on the internet of this deer
Hello everyone just registered on this site to let everyone know that I am the photographer who was taking pictures of that world class Buck in the TROY NATURE CENTER.The police are working on the case and should have it settled soon I hope. I would think if it was taken legally he would have shared it with the world. To see more pictures of him that I have taken you can click on the link and enjoy. Or copy and paste. http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/575886620dnjFoP
Nature Center Buck Obviously, as we all know, this world is filled with law breaking citizens that are willing to go great extents for a trophy like this. Honestly, i feel like the photographer should not have posted the exact 100 acre fenced location of this fine animal. Especially considering it is accessible to any and everyone no matter what their intent. It's kinda like telling someone theres a treasure burried under the oak tree and expecting them not to be persuaded. The pictures would have been plenty in my opinion.
I did not post location until I saw it dead in the back of a pickup truck !!! Someone always trying to protect the poacher?????
I don't care if he posted where and what time the buck would be out for everyone to see, He didn't make the dude poach it if that is what happened could still be 100% legal. Big urban bucks are around all the time for alot to see.. Walt
ive seen this buck in the pick up on other forums and this is the first time i saw the pics with the deer still alive. no doubt this is the same buck.
Definitely the same buck, and looking at that place on a map, he'd have had to go a LONG ways before he'd have been "huntable...."
I just read the article today in the MI woods & water magazine, no question he poached the deer. Troy nature center is 10 miles away from the nearest huntable ground and at least 40 miles from what Michiganders would consider the "Thumb Area" where the buck was said to be shot. I doubt the buck wandered 10 miles in the span of 2 days. If ignorance is the case, then we all have heard the case "ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law". below are 2 links, the msu law library has all the city ordinances to keep us all out of trouble or u might find out you can hunt your city!! the other is the troy nature center site.......6685 coolidge highway, Troy MI mapquest it and see for your self how far huntable land is from the park. Troy and all surrounding cities all carry the same no hunting ordinances. http://www.law.msu.edu/library/substantive/local.html http://troymi.gov/parksrec/naturecenter/
He goes to court May 12, 2010 52nd district court in Troy. Lets hope they nail him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
