With Trevor and Backcountry on this one.. I know there's still a lot of problems with whites being racist towards blacks, but I also know there's a lot of problems with black being racist towards whites.

I think most of the "rednecks" flying the Confederate Flag have no clue about the history behind it. It's the cool thing to do because "Im a Redneck." Then there are the other ones that are racist and fly it proudly hoping to spread their hate.

The town I grew up near and went to high school just banned the display of Confederate Flags in the city. This is where Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee are buried! This flag is part of their heritage. Some people took offense to the flag. I really can't blame them.

One other thing, I hate saying "African American." Is that the politically correct way of saying "black?" How about "colored?"
Do AA's really get offended when someone calls them black? I really can not understand why.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People --- I'm actually surprised the word "colored" hasn't been replaced with something else.

Do you think racism will ever cease to exist? Sadly, I don't think so! It's sad world.

Guess I really don’t know how to post on this thread... not something that you can really encompass with typing or even over the phone.

I will say this... I’m proud of who I am. I’m proud of my country and what it has gone thru to get to this point. I love my county above all others and will tell outsiders so. And also can say that i would die defending it. But there is no greater conflict in me than this....

"How do I feel about my county(see above), and how does my country feel about me?" (not org. mine... Benjamin O. Davis, Jr)

As far as the "programs" they have been abused by some and have perverted what the intent was to try and do (make equality) stop trying to make things equal.... all we need to do is make things better for those after us. Racism will never completely go away, so it is my job as a man to educate/familiarize others with me and breakdown stereotypes they may hold of me.

How many blacks do yall know who hunt? Bow hunt for that matter? I'd venture to say not many. So this common ground we share, in bow hunting, can bring us together and learn from each other on different topics. That’s all i wanna do. Not sure who's signature it is, but says, “He who dies with the most friends wins!”

How do I feel about the Rebel Flag??? $hit it’s on my favorite car of all time =-) Guess it means different things to different people. Until those people discuss with me what it means to them, I really don’t pay it any attention. Not the first time I’ve seen it and other symbols, will not be the last!

This conversation would be MUCH better in person over a few beers!

Good post, Isaiah. I almost didn't post in this thread because I was afraid my post would be misinterpreted. Very touchy subject.

    I agree with this. :tu:

Some people just have a better way of words. Exactly the point i've been trying to get at.

I just wish race wasn't an issue to begin with. It's like the 120th thing I think of when judging a person.

Also agree this conversation is near impossible through type. I've muddled my actual thoughts on here enough, I'll leave it alone from here.

Im actually quite satisfied with the responses. The crazy rednecks must be away from the board today, or too chicken to voice an opinion :woot:

that is a very loaded comment. I am tired of the race debate. I am tired of people hyphenating their american nationality. Until we look at all of us legal residents as just Americans, regardless of race, we are not going to make any progress as a country.

Not at all. This is something that needs to be talked about. So many people have views based on what their parents or friends taught them, or what they see on TV. Much of that is based on extremes. You can see it in this thread. Racism is often only talked about when something "extreme" takes place.

Justin and Isaiah both made good posts. Don't judge a person when you haven't walked in their shoes, and don't make an assumption based on a few small things you might have experienced or seen on TV.

Trevor, your post may not have come across as you hoped, but what it sounded like what you meant is repeated often these days. We have seen in it on this forum before. It would great if we didn't have to try to make things "equal", like you said. The world would be better if it was just that way. Unfortunately, its not. We have to make an effort. Even if that "effort" is choosing not to judge without knowing a person. That works in all walks of life. Not saying you don't do this, Trevor, just rambling...

I wish everyone would have a chance to sit down with people like my FIL, or Isaiah, and many others like them. This world would be a better place.
