Is this considered an "abnormal point?"

So I shot this deer this past November in IL with my bow. Had it officially scored last week and the scorer considered both G2's abnormal.. Do you guys agree? Sorry not the best picture and I'll add some better ones ASAP. The way he scored him with those being abnormal, the buck grosses 153" and nets 135" typical. I lost a lot of inches because of it.. It doesn't upset me at all I would still shoot this buck any day of the week! Just looking for more opinion.

The other side looks just the same as the G2 and G3.

Really need to see better picture, up right in profile so we can have better view of tine meeting the beam or lack there of.

If the other side has a matching point, I always heard it was not an abnormal point. I'm anything but an official scorer though.

    Hell of a deer! Congrats.

I disagree w/ the scoring based on the pic. It appears the backside of the G2 clearly connects to the main beam, as does the front side of the G3. While the valley in between is marginal, it should have been enough to clear as typical.

My dad's 167" deer had a very similar situation (pic below, but I'd have to look at it in person to confirm which, I believe it was the G3-4s.) The scorer waffled a bit before not giving any deduction. My dad ended up on Michigan Outdoors at the big convention, and several other certified scorers confirmed it as typical points.

I would need to see better detail at the bases of both points and beam. Also, more angles. It would depend on if they are common base points or not.
dnoodles, I cannot enlarge your picture to see what the points are there. The picture is a small thumbnail so I can't really say much except that it is a really nice deer. Could both of you post other pics of these?

Yes, they should be scored as abnormal points. They share a common base. There would have to be main beam separating the two tines to be considered normal tines. Think of it this way; if you cut along a line at the top of the main beam, they would both come off attached at the bottom. It was scored correctly, but who really cares what it scores.....its a great buck!

Being they share a base, I think the scorer was right...But still a great looking deer either way!

That is a beautiful buck! I'm a big believer in scoring what's actually there. That common base thing is what stopped Wayn Zaft from having the world record whitetail by bow. He holds the Alberta record though. His G3 I think it was, became a deduction as being non-typical. Nets are for fishing!

Google and read about the "King" buck and look at the pictures. Looks like yours and you will find plenty on the subject.

Thanks guys this is exactly what I wanted, to hear everyone's opinion! I will post some more pictures soon, when I get a second not being at work. I really don't care what it scored it's my biggest buck by far with a bow and really biggest overall even though I have one that scores a tad bigger. Thanks for all the kind words!

hopefully that's better. This buck's beams were so palmated that it was really hard to tell where the beam actually ends and the points branch.

I'm no official scorer, I'm just going off of what at least 4 different guys told my dad. They said it was a tough call but they stood as typical points.
