To get aerial coverage like this, you must have a high human density. Careful what you wish for....

It's actually Newton Falls. Not sure why the map says Windham, as Windham is a good 15 minute drive away.

I can sometimes be ten feet above a game trail on the side of a hill and barely see it until I get within feet of it. The aerial view of this spot seems to be hundreds of feet high. Maybe I am not a guy schooled in marsh land game trails, but from hundreds of feet high that game trail must be like 5-10 feet wide to even show up on a view like that.....I have never seen a game trail five-ten feet wide. Again, I am not one for marshland hunting so I do not know the specifics of hunting in a location like that Buckeye.

This aerial is from directly across the road, at the same zoom level.

Compare the tire tracks from the truck to the size of the "trail". Truck tires are like 8-12" wide.

Cool Scott, if you found that trail leading out of that cool thicket, then you are the man! Best of luck to you putting an arrow through whatever is using that spot to bed. If it is a bedding area then that buck has a 360 view of his surroundings. Pretty cool stuff.

I am only like 75% on it being a trail from the photo. I am not going to just walk up to it and check it out either. If a target animal is bedding on it... And we have our usual WSW wind no matter how I try to access the "trail" to the swamp edge, I'm screwed.

I will wait until conditions favor a setup for this spot then I will hunt it.

I know deer bed on the island as I scouted it out a few years ago. I accessed it from directly North of the island. I did not walk the swamp edge anywhere as it was half frozen and made very tough walking between the ice and muck.

Looks like a trail, Buckeroo... and a great looking spot! Might be a tough wind direction, though :o

edit: just read your above post... I'll be hoping for one of those rare easterly winds for ya... good luck with it!

It is probably a crack head trail where they are making meth in the tree patch. Or if you have amish in the area... a secret meeting place where they plan on taking over the country, swap wives and try to figure out why they can't grow mustaches. :busted: A peaceful people... ya right... don't let the horse drawn buggies fool ya... they have an agenda !!!

I wouldn't hunt it as a waste of time!! So what if a corn field is near by... it looks like a great, secluded spot with a great trail running to it. While it jumps out at you and you feel a really strong urge to must hunt it... Big Monster Bucks just don't bed there. Trust me... I spent more time in cattails/marsh in one year then 99.9 % of duck hunters in their life time !!! The sign you had seen when you scouted it... where maybe little young, cull bucks at best that were gay. By now they have all died from aids. I would find some where else to hunt !!! Just saying because I am a friend !!!! The horse pasture looks promising though !!!! ;) :tu:

Did you find any sheds in there the time you scouted it or near by ??

TJF  ,,,,,,,,,,,,,Scott I believe it is one of two things. A game Deer trail or a Beaver run in the marsh from island to land. Does it hold shallow water or just wet and mucky?

Ahhh, looks like I was only fooling myself. I thought maybe those bucks were gay but wasn't sure. Terrible way to die, of buck aids  Thanks for setting me straight Mr. 170!

No I didn't find any sheds on the property that day, I got cut short that day when I was there and never made it back to finish scouting / shedding.

I do not believe it is a beaver trail as there are no creeks / streams feeding it, it is more of a bog than a swamp. I never did see a beaver hut or any beaver cut trees.

I hunted this place 3 times in the 2008 season.

They no longer make ammo that I know of, but the place is booming with activity. It is now called Camp Ravenna for the Army National Guard.

The question is; do you hunt in the morning as they head to bed - or evening when they head to feed?

    Bing Maps

I use Bing Maps 3D along with "birds-eye" view. This is absolutely vital to my scouting.

    Good luck!

I'm actually working on laying out a pipeline in Clinton and Lycoming counties as we speak. Looks like some good hunting terrain with the steep topography but it sure sucks for typing to put a pipeline through.

    Sorry. :hijacked:
