I don't think the looks mean people think they are better, either. I think you see those looks in regards to any rude behavior. People generally don't like rudeness.

The area in which I work I see people constantly smoking. Most of the area in which I work is lower socioeconomically. Why would those people want to waste their precious dollars on something so disgusting and expensive like smoking?

So It's rude that I smoke/chew away from people? I avoid people If I light up In public which Isn't all that often. Some of you folks are sure perfect around here and paint with a very broad brush.

I look at it this way... I'm saving at least $450 a month. LOL I started smoking in the military. I quit several times. Usually for a year at a time. I quit for 7 years once. Anyway, I started again after my wife died. I quit a year ago. At $10 a pack here in NY I figure I'm saving at least $450 a month. It's like someone added to my retirement account. LOL I wasn't smoking... I'd light one, take a couple puffs and put it out. People would always say, "why do you even bother"? Now I don't. Don't miss them at all. I never did smoke in my house. Dead of winter...if I wanted a smoke I was going outside.

I used to smoke, chew and dip. Haven't touched any of it for a long, long time. I do miss the chew though.

Young man, don't believe the bull that's been fed to you by the "Pro-Canibus" groups, Marijuana is far worse for you than you may realize.... Quite a few carcinogens in there, and it does delay response times, and it does place people in an altered state as far as decision making, reaction times, etc. If someone who smokes a pack a day swapped out that habit for cigarettes, they'd be increasing their problems exponentially. Ever notice that guy who seems just a little spaced out and talks slowly and deliberately, and you know he smoked one too many joints.... We don't need to legalize it and create more "potheads/stoners/whatever you call them" than we already have.

And like Tony said, what next??? Just a little cocaine won't kill ya, plus it heightens your senses, why not make it legal???

While I'm not for increasing government restrictions, I think there are some that are in place for good reason....

Smoking, while a very annoying and disgusting habit, has been with the populous of this country long enough that you're not going to snuff it out completely, but through taxes, increasing prices, etc, it has greatly lessened over the past 20 yrs. And while we know the bad health effects of it, it's not something you're likely to persuade many hardcore smokers to stop very easily, including several members of my family.

    Brett and Bruce,
I still chew loose leaf (Trophy - low nicotine compared to Red Man) when I hunt or fish, and occasionally on road trips, but I quit dipping snuff after 15+ yrs while still in college and up to 2-3cans a day, and it took a LONG time to not want a dip every morning, during class, after class after a meal, etc... Loose leaf don't have me the way snuff did, and I've been an infrequent user of loose leaf ever since quitting snuff.

I never dated a chick that smoked, but the saying "if she smokes, she pokes" is 100% accurate.

And marijuana should be legal. This is not even up for debate.

If you simple look at the financial impact marijuana has on this country and Mexico it becomes very obvious that the support is in place for legalization.
And to say smoking a joint after work leads to cocaine use is just plain silly. So Joe six pack is ok but the man who burns one after work is drain of the American society as a whole? I say B.S.

If you can't unwind with a glass of wine or a few beers then maybe it's not the substance it's the person.

Smoked weed as a kid and do not feel it added anything to my life but make me lazy, hungry and having to deal with a seedy element.

If the argument is pot should be legal because alchohol is, then I say take away the alchohol.

I am not a fan of arguing on the internet but sense weed has been brought up I figured I would respectfully voice a "hunch" I have. Sense when does the Gov. ban anything because it is bad for you? I think that weed is not illegal simply because it is bad for you. Alcohol is just as bad for you, or maybe even worse. The difference between alcohol and weed is that alcohol can be more easily controlled. I.E. It only takes a police officer a few minutes to pull someone over who is obviously impaired, give them a "walk the straight line" test, and have them blow into a breathalyzer and see a very accurate reading as to how much that person has had to drink within the last few hours. Tow the vehicle and write them a DUI, and everyone is safe. Now replace that driver with someone who is stoned. They would be swerving just the same, and be just as much of a danger on the road as someone who is above the legal alcohol limit. What is the cop suppose to do? "Your stuffing your face with Taco Bell, your eyes are red like the devils, and you smell like pot, but you blew zeros so Have a safe night."

If they fail all the standaridized sobriety tests and blow zero's they are going to the ER and getting a blood draw. DUID.

Thank you sir. I was hoping you would chime in to that. Hope I didn't offend you at all. I am going to school for Law Enforcement myself, so that fake quote was to just help make the point and nothing else.. Another question for you, Even after they draw blood can they tell If your on it at that moment? or if you just smoked within the last day or two?

    Thanks for voicing your thoughts.

If it were legal I'm sure they would find a way to check you out. Pot sniffing puppy dogs in every cop car:)

But your point is very valid as to "when does the government not do something because it's bad for you"? If that were not the case cigarettes would have been made illegal decades ago. They make money at it just like the lottery, gambling, alcohol, etc.

Yet another reason for us not put to much trust in your government. It's us against them whether your left wing or right wing they want to control you and your money. Don't feed into either sides BS. They pin us against each other to fight over the little BS stuff while their sneaking out the back with all our and future generations money.

The less power they have the better off we are. IMO
