As our society has slowly considered smoking more and more as an ailment. Has it officially reached the point of becoming totally taboo?

This isn't so much what you think of smokers. This is more about how society as a whole perceives smokers.

Not in the south but it is heading that way thankfully.

Disgusting habit that costs us millions if not billions in healthcare.

With the super high taxes on smokes in IL, it amazes me that anyone still does it. Chicago is proposing another $1 per pack tax which would make just the taxes about $6.70. There's already a good black market for them there, so another buck per pack will really help the gangs out.

(Chicago is also proposing a tax of 5 cents per round of ammuntion... yay, Chitcago!)

I know ALOT of people that do.... Never tried it in my life, never wanted to.... But I've probably been around enough 2nd hand to make my lungs look otherwise...

And yes I think it's becoming taboo

I think it is. I don't remember it being that way when I was younger through high school and college. I was a smoker at that point though, so it's hard to say.......but I don't remember it being taboo like I see people acting towards it today.

I quit the day before bow season started in 2005 and haven't smoked since (except a few cigars now and then when enjoying drinks). One of the toughest and best things I've ever done.

It has always been taboo to me.

I have never smoked, nor have I ever even went out on a date with a chick that smokes. Automatic deal breaker for me, don't matter how hot they are.

I hope so, but approx 20% of population does it.

It is a stupid habit but I am enough of a Libertarian to think that everyone should have the right to be stipid if they so choose.

When I first joined the military they were $.25 per pack once we were outside US territorial waters. Now, here $6.00+ per pack, I'd say the got people to quit by outpricing the lower to middle class smokers.

They are $9-$10+ here in NY.......and people buy them! And the FUNNIEST part is the majority of smokers are on government assistance ......

I used to smoke .... I believe it should be illegal....

I believe we should educate and allow people their own choices, not remove choice from them. I even think marijuana should be legal. Quit all the ghost chases running it down and allowing criminals to become millionaires off of a drug less harmful than cigarettes or alcohol. Tax it at the rate of tobacco and regulate it. Win win.

I think smoking is becoming less popular these days, most my friends only smoke when they are drunk. Chewing on the other hand, it's pretty popular around here. I am addicted myself. I need to quit, my girlfriend has already caught me 3 times and I'm still trying to quit. I wish I never started, I figured I could just chew every now and then and not get addicted. Boy was I wrong. I chew a can of Copenhagen a day, sometimes more. I can't even go hunting without a can with me. I forgot a can the other day and walked the half mile back to the truck just to get it. Anyone who is thinking about starting, please, do not start. You can thank me later. It costs me around $1,700 a year, if not more. Being in college, that is quite a chunk of change for someone who only works during the summer.

That question cuts both ways. Where does the government regulation stop?
